Not sure there is much correlation. Just because a team has a lot of scoring back doesn’t really matter unless the team was good. An example is Rutgers. Sure, they could improve, but current talent is the key. Would you expect Rutgers to be better than Indiana this season just because they have a lot returning?
 

Illinois at 16-1 and Michigan State at 25-1 the best bets (at their odds) at this point. If you like taking a longshot for sh*ts and giggles Nebraska at 100-1 looks nice.

I'd say Wisconsin at 100-1 is the best long shot. They always find a way to put a solid squad together and make the tourney. Overvalued: USC, Indiana, Iowa

Iowa and Wisconsin have the same value. Yes, Wisconsin finds a way to finish top 4 the majority of the time...I agree, but Ben McCollum has an even better track record and he has 10 players returning to the program. I know Stirtz is/was big but McCollum really likes his transfer replacement...I like both teams pretty equally with maybe even an edge to Iowa.

USC, especially needs to prove they should be valued that high...ain't touching that...again, agree.
I think you could lump Indiana, Purdue, USC and UCLA with the other $10,000 teams. But, there'd probably be less to talk about then.

Iowa was projected to finish 8th in the B1G last year, and they finished 9th. They caught lightning in a bottle during the tournament. I'm not ready to crown McCollum as the next Coach K just yet.

Well, he is 450 and 108 for 80.6 winning percentage. He lost 31 of those 108 losses in his first two years of coaching and 13 last year at Iowa....almost half of his losses in three years over 17 years total.

He goes to the NCAA tournament annually - 12 straight times. Finishing 9th was absolutely a disappointment I'm confident it will be improved upon.

But, you are correct...he is now a level up.

He’s been to the NCAA tourney two times. Once at Drake and once at Iowa. All the others were D-2 tourney. He’s a really good coach, but almost all of his wins were at D-2.

I’ve seen Coleman 3-4 times at Illinois State. Averaged 10 and 2 there. Nice player at 6-2 but a long ways from Stirtz, imo. He was probably ISU’s fourth best player.

Saying he's gone to the NCAA tournament 12 straight times doesn't mean much to me personally. Based on what he had to work with last year and what Niko had to work with last year with the injuries, how would you compare them? And, just speculation, but if Welling from Clemson, their 2nd leading scorer, doesn't tear his ACL last year in the ACC tournament and let's say Clemson beats Iowa in round 1, does that change things at all?

Loaded questions, I know.

I agree Coleman isn't Stirtz but I also don't feel like Iowa is counting on him to be that. He'll run the offense, play defense and be better for Ben than he was at Illinois State.

Iowa has a bunch of shooters and a bunch of guys who played 31 games last year. Despite how they finished, Ben was very unhappy with how they played regular season...I just think the team is on a mission to be noticeably better this year than last year....also, I'm guessing a lot of guys and Ben are sick of hearing the doubts about their collapse without Stirtz. Iowa is hungry.
All speculation on my part from some interviews.

They have a NCAA Tournament in D2 as well. He's 2 for 2 at DI.

Stirtz made every other player Iowa had, better. He's a huge loss.
