Per Shama:

“I feel like we have put ourselves in a position where we can be very competitive with our peers in the Big Ten and be able to compete at the highest level,” he told Sports Headliners recently.

There are places like Michigan, Ohio State, and Texas Tech, where exorbitant amounts of money via revenue sharing and NIL reportedly pay football and men’s basketball players, but compared with all its peers in the Big Ten, Coyle is convinced the Gophers are not an “outlier” in being able to compete for player talent in those sports and others.

“…We are in a very competitive spot in terms of rev share dollars for our sports. Our coaches are not running here (to his office) sayin, ‘Oh, my gosh, I need more rev share money.’ They’re very competitive to our peers in the Big Ten. And that makes me feel good because we’re giving them a fighting chance.”

Relative to NIL, Coyle said “fans have been awesome” in helping fund that initiative that pays players for endorsements and personal appearances. Again, comparing with peers, Coyle said in NIL the Gophers are “very, very competitive too.”

Go Gophers!!

Mark Coyle tell people how much money we have to spend in basketball....pat yourself on the back big fella. But come on man...Illinois, Michigan, Michigan St, USC, UCLA, Purdue, Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon all have twice as much money as we do ... or the Gophers are really bad at spending it if they have have similar amounts. That's 9 teams....we might have Iowa and Wisconsin money but Nebraska and Maryland also have more to spend than the Gophers. Easily 11 teams with several million to twice as many million to spend or again ...we just aren't good at getting value for ALL this money we are dishing out. My guess...Coyle is full of hot air.

I’m actually encouraged by this. He’s saying we (Minnesota) can compete with the money we have. I’d rather have him saying this than moaning & groaning about poor little Minnesota, setting up excuses for if the team(s) fail miserably. Unless there’s a “salary” cap, there’s no way every school is going to have the same amount of money.

The right coach is in place, and now it sounds like the U AD feels good about the financial support available to the coach. Let’s rock & roll. In Niko we trust.

And yet we went about 6-8 against those 11 teams last year with half of our roster out for the year, if anything we are the ones spending wisely in that group. Maybe our ads as sexy as USC's or Indiana's, but how many times have those teams in the last few years won a portal title and then did nothing in the regular season. Kinda like Nebraska football. If anything our coach know what he wants to run, recruits to it and has a clear plan, it's not like he's assembling talent and having them go out and play hero/iso ball
