All Things 2026-207 Minnesota Wild

If they’re going to add salary, those are the players that would have to be moved to make room. Everyone else is either too valuable or makes too little money.

I think they have around 10 mil left and half their 6 is either vacant or in need of an upgrade.
Per puckpedia. Yes after McCarron signing they have 9.4mil left with some guys also counted against this who could be waived to make some room and some ways to bury some money still. This is with 1.6million still allocated to Suter and Parise, which is fun

Under contract as currently stands
KK-Hartman-Empty
Boldy-Ek-Empty
Trenin-Yurov-Foligno
Sturm-McCarron-Empty

Other contracted Fs: Haight, Pitlick, Stramel, Lorenz, Heidt, Kumpulainen

Would assume Zuccy comes back on a low tier deal to make one more go at it. maybe N Foligno comes back on a very minimal deal to play with his brother as a bottom 6/healthy scratch guy. But yeah as it sits, they're going to need some kindness to have room to add any impact top 6 guy

Faber-Hughes
Brodin-Spurgeon
Middleton-insert whatever of the young guys you want

The D is overall set unless they want to move salary as you allude to. If standing pat, they have room to try target a top 6 wing, but they'd need the above guys to take deals to do so first.

This coupled with a market that's going to have PLENTY of cash to splash with the cap increase and BG has his work cut out for him, especially as he needs to slice out a deal for Hughes AND sell him on a vision that would want to keep him here long-term unless he's just selling out for this year

My message was supposed to say “half their top 6” as given all the talk about adding another top 6 C, I put Hartman in the bottom 6.

However, I suppose a more accurate statement would be half their top 6 is either vacant or in need of an upgrade if they are going to contend.

that is a crazy deal from Florida... 2 years left under contract and of course he'll want to stay with his bro, but man that's a heavy deal for a winger

this is in part why i imagine the larkin price is going to be really really heavy if you're going to land him

Considering the hit rate on draft picks, this is probably worth the gamble to them. I've watched the VGK not give a shit about 1st round picks for their entire history and hasn't really hurt them one bit.

Good move for Florida I think, and Ottawa did pretty well on the return. Seems like a win-win

I would have loved to see Brady in a wild jersey but that is a big price to pay on top of what we paid for Hughes.

Hit rate in the top ten is very different, especially in what’s viewed as a very deep draft of upper caliber players. Florida knows what their window is, so I get going for it. It’s just an awful big sell when you have no goalie as it currently stands (they have 70m spent on forwards right now) and tons of guys coming off injury. I don’t think they’re better than Carolina or tampa and there’s a lot of east teams on the rise. What’s fascinating is they’ve got 8 guys over 30 on NTCs for the next 4 years so they are who they are

That being said, of all the leagues the nhl is the one you can do the most with deeper picks turning gold I’d say.

Vegas I think is hard as a sample to make given how they were formed coupled with the cap exploding at about the same time. Both Florida and Vegas are near the bottom in farm system rankings, so Makes sense to go for it til the well runs dry

The ability to self-scout and know where your team is, you can argue, is one of the most critical skills of a GM and Front Office. Agreed, I have a hard time finding fault with Florida's pursuit, and I would be surprised if Brady doesn't sign for a team friendly deal to stick around

Farm systems are funny, depending on how you use them. No doubt, drafted and home grown elite talent is the cheapest way to go (like KK, Boldy, EEK) but hard to consistently rely on. On the flip side, I watch Vegas basically go big-game hunting in Free Agency/trades and use their farm system to supplement their bottom 6.

Being as big of an HSK fan (the Vegas AHL team) as I am the VGK, I'm actually cautiously optimistic that Vegas has some middle-6 talent waiting to come up. After a couple of head coaches that historically do NOT use young players, maybe the hiring of HSK's Ryan Craig as their head coach will translate into Vegas finally, finally relying on some younger minor league talent in the next year or two. They may have to

GM Guerin is now feeling the pain for all the expensive middle to bottom line tier players he spend a lot of picks and players for. Also hope the Kaprizov signing doesn't turn out like Parise, Suter. Don't understand why Wild won't just play Yurov as top Center with Kaprizov and let him play! That is when he seemed to be his best. Love Ek, but he needs to stay healthy in the playoffs. Multiple years of this happening. Kaprizov, Yurov, Boldy is a top line. Problem is finding line 2,3,4 to get more scoring without breaking up line 1.

Feels like it going to be the equivalent of 4 first round picks or a couple first rounders and a really good round player that the wild pick up from a precursor trade (or a 3 team deal).

Take it for what it's worth.... I would think it would be tough for Dallas to pull off

I have heard Anders Lee named mentioned a bit. Yes he’s on the backside of his career obviously but he is durable. He has missed one game in last 4 seasons. Physical good at draws and a leader. If the price is right what the hell.

Minnesota?

There's a lot of talk/rumblings about Vegas moving Hertl to make some cap room for a bigger move. Man, I just don't know if I can get behind that. Yes, Hertl had a lengthy scoring drought this season that lasted into the early rounds of the playoffs but Hertl is a very, very good player that does a lot of things that aren't easy to find; a big physical Center, very good in the faceoff circle, a great net-front presence on the PP, awesome teammate, in the locker room, etc.

Could definitely see Hughes wanting a shorter contract, which would give him options to cash in on another contract in a few years if he doesn't like the direction things are going or have gone in Minnesota.

If Hughes holds the Wild hostage like Kaprizov did and takes a huge deal, it's going to make it hard for the Wild to put together a team around that core. The only reason that KK987 contract isn't going to CRIPPLE the Wild for the next few years is the Boldy contract is ridiculously team friendly for a while which mercifully offsets the KK97 overpay

Miichael Russo has confirm the Wild have no interest in Hertl.

I hope Vegas has Zero interest in moving Hertl. You just don't trade "Fun must be always!" He's worth more to Vegas than he would be to other teams anyway.

Damn, Washington sure seems to be loading up. First they make a move for Jordan Kyrou, and now for Alex Tuch. Tuch at $10.5M AAV. Not sure what to think of that. Probably in the right ballpark? Definitely not low
