All Things Players Coming and Going (26-27 Off-Season)

I just think especially the MSU hype has been too much right now. All the comments about the amount of potential first rounders, well let’s actually take a deep dive into these players.

Star or probable star: Chase Reid, Ryker Lee, Cullen Potter
Big guys who were/will be picked earlier because of a LOT of projecting, didn’t dominate junior hockey by any means: Belchetz, West
Late first round or second round picks: Hextall, Klepov (Hextall was not anything special in juniors)
Straight up does not look good: Lindstrom

Ravensbergen could step in and be great but it’s a goalie, far from a sure thing.

They very well could come together and be a good team, but it’s all antics from the media right now. Their coach has also had three 1-seed teams in a row and failed to make a single frozen four, all those teams seemed better than this one to me.

Bauer Dumanski looks like the last D for UND unless there’s a post draft decommit. Very solid lunch pail kinda guy I’m sure UND will be happy with for multiple years

Mariucci will be full of green as it always is now, and it'll be damn hard to split that series.

They’ve split the last 4 times, and I’d expect the same. But yeah it’s not going to be a “home” game as the pioux will buy a ton of tickets when they’re out and the u will be happy to collect their money at an overpriced gate

Are you really happy with that though? It's depressing that a 50/50 crowd (excluding student sections) or worse is inevitable.

should say the U. I am not happy with that and drives me crazy, as does the atmosphere they've created at games that has gotten really stale. I'd be all for pushing the number of student sections larger but the U will never do that because they want to continue to make money off corporate STH who only show up half the time

Nesbitt, as previously expected, to Michigan officially

I don’t know if I’d complain about the Gopher crowd currently at all. As someone who has season tickets, it’s far and away at least the second best college crowd on a nightly basis, even in a year where we had the worst team in 50 years it was still kickin.

Unfortunately the home games against Nodak are gonna be more like that since there’s a ton of fans who went there that live around the cities who don’t get to see their games at all. On the other hand there’s like no Gopher fans who live in Grand Forks who don’t get to see Gopher games consistently. If I only got to see my team like once a year I’d pay plenty of money to go see them

Yeah you could definitely argue the games from about 2017-2020 were pretty stale but ever since the team got competitive again the atmosphere at Mariucci has been awesome.

i agree with all above, especially the bolded aspect.

Moreso my point being is that its the students who make the atmosphere and the crowd has a tendency to sit on its hands for large parts of the game. More students who will get rowdier and cheer more helps comparatively, but their ticket gate is lower so I don't see the U going that route.

As an aside, we need to get some of the former students down there to get the student-band relationship back in cheers, etc. Feels like our band plays so little compared to what they used to do for driving the between whistle energy/keeping the crowd going, which may in part be because of how they use the video board now for a whole array of bleh announcements and ads.

I am just not looking forward to hearing lets go sioux chants over the top of the lets go gophers ones like the last time we were here or like we did when the dogs were here last year

Michigan cuts ties with Anthony Bongo to make room for one of the superstars.

It's fun being an also-ran.

"I’m told Daxon Rudolph has narrowed his NCAA options down to three schools:
• Denver
• Michigan State
• Boston College

Rudolph is expected to visit Denver in the coming days as programs continue pushing to finalize next year’s recruiting classes."

I’m sure DuPont which is going to feel depressing
It's all good, Brek Liske and/or Luke Vlooswyk in Maroon n Gold is still a possibility. Personally, if feel Vlooswyk is so underrated and would have immediate impact. Liske has more upside but may take a bit more time to gel in the NCAA.

Good lord I hope you're not seriously thinking those pickups would be similar to Reid/Carels/Verhoef/Dupont/Rudolph/Lin/Villeneuve... Wow is that a long list of the best D going elsewhere.

Stinks but If it ain’t Dupont I don’t see much of a reason to spend that much effort on defense instead of a center. Murr is not the flashy high pick but he’s already a sure fire 1D with not much risk for a team who needed one terribly. Also I’d rather have Tarin Smith for one or two years than 2 or 3 of those guys who might be higher touted NHL prospect but probably won’t be as ready right away next year.

I like our D, missing on the centers is hurting more.

I know on the center thing. But you're getting an injured Smith and you might only get him for half a year. If any of those top D wanted to be Gophers you'd take them.

ya, I realize Gopher fans like shiny stuff. A 6'5" stay at home defensemen, who wins corner battles and blocks shots like a 2nd goalie might not be the right fit for this fan base.

Well, I’m saying that under the assumption that we know Smith is gonna be ready near or at the start of the season. It would be pretty tough if he was actually out for that long but nothing real has come out on it.

There is just 1 person, who is always doom and gloom and is never satisfied unless the incoming player is a 1st round pick, who only likes shiny stuff. The rest of us real fans support the team no matter who is on the roster.

And yet I'm the one right most about how the team will be. As it is, this team will not make the tournament.

I mean it’s not a top 5 team on paper, but top 15? I’d say so. Outside the top 5ish what teams have more talent? Last year the roster was dogshit compared to this one at the start of the year. More proven players, and a better freshmen class.

Center is an issue and nothing is a sure thing but there’s enough talent to get to the tournament on paper.

Could be a top 15 team but when you play in the Big Ten they'll get beat up on and that'll make it tough to make it. Plus UMD and UND series could easily be four losses.
I don’t know about that. After UM I don’t think the Gophers match up worse than the other teams like last year. Even if you are one who thinks Michigan State will be a top 5 team (which I am certainly not one of those people), do you really think on paper currently that Penn State, Wisco, Ohio State, and Notre Dame should pose as huge issues to our roster?

I would bet we split both of UMD and UND, and at worse go 1-3. I mean we did that last year with that shit show team.
