Doogie on MN/St Thomas matchup: “Closer than ever before to being reality.”

Purdue non conference came out today.. Are Ball State and Valpo in Indiana? … Come on ultra competitive Niko… ball is in the Gophers court again…

They play here, donate $1M to our NIL fund, clean the Williams Arena restrooms after the game and Roland works Concessions.

My niece is on pace to graduate in 3.5 years from UST with her Masters in Accounting and she has a Summer internship making $42 an hour. At her age, my Summer job was at a golf course and fully satisfied that every hour I worked was half the cost of a keg glass in the Fall when I went back to college.

My guess for starters is a 3-year deal . … two at The Barn and a neutral-siter at Target Center or the Sanford Pentagon.

Of course, a game in South Dakota pitting the two MN schools together would make no sense, but there’s so much going on in college hoops now that makes little sense, why not? 🤷‍♂️

I might dress up as Goldy if Coyle and company sign on the dotted line…

They could ride the bus together

I feel like I need to preface this statement by disclosing I have no St. Thomas affiliations.

Would it be the worst idea to play a true road game instead of a neutral site? I'd guess most years it will be a Q2 matchup, which wouldn't be a huge blow if hell freezes over and we lose the game.

I'd even venture a bet that it wouldn't be our worst loss of the season (a Q3 Big 10 home loss is always in the cards).

I get we have the leverage to make them play at the Barn, but with an expanded tournament field, a Q2 road win could actually boost the resume, and a loss wouldn't really hurt it. This all assumes St. Thomas maintains the same trajectory they've been on.

I think it's been in UST's court for awhile. Niko offered to open their new arena last year.
Army had been scheduled to open the new arena for 15 months… the Gophers new that.. that’s why the offer to open the new arena was comical the Gophers new that.. ball 🏀 definitely in The Gophers court..

I doubt T. Denny wants another private school that just made a D1 jump in Augustana's backyard...

A Target Center neutral site game would be aick.

Can't mess with the signature matchup against Army!

UST simply didn't want to lose their opener in the arena.

Let’s see the Anderson’s gave UST $75 million for the arena … Lee Anderson played at Army the head coaching position at Army is named after and sponsored by Lee Anderson. The women’s team from also played to make it a doubleheader…

I know it might be hard to understand for some…

Why isn't he building Army a new arena instead of St. Thomas?

Let me answer your question with another question - would UCLA ever play a road game at UC Riverside? There's your answer.

St. Thomas is beneath us, and playing a true road game implies that there's some level of parity.

LMAO it's not hard to understand. The hard part for you to understand is that most here don't give a flying f about USTs history. This is a Gopher board.

Just like I don't expect anyone not a Gopher fan to understand the history of Williams or Mariucci arena.

That might be hard to understand for some....you

I think it would be great to play them. As long as it substitutes for a different low rated team at Williams Arena.
That's the rub. We have absolutely nothing to gain playing UST, let alone at their arena or at a neutral site. Then I look at the rest of the scrubs we play in our NC schedule and it kind of deflates my original argument.

Exactly. Putting fannies in seats isn't nothing.

I've said it since day one of St. Thomas going D1.

Offer a ten-year contract.

All ten games at Williams Arena, send the Tommies $5000 each year for bus money.

That's it.

Take it or leave it Toms.

No chance we should play in their building.

Neutral site? Maybe. But, I don't see a benefit in that.

So playing a patsy was more important than losing to the Gophers. It's fine. I don't blame UST for turning down a game against the Gophers in order to get a win in their first game in the new arena.
