I know some people really love certain places they have been, but you really need to swallow a little pride when you go back to a place where you won a Natty and were making $9M a year, so basically the CEO of the program. Now you're going to walk the halls of the same football facility as an assistant, making $100K. In a program like LSU those are more like the people who pick up the coach's coffee and dry cleaning. I think this would be way too much for most.

I think that Ed loves the life. He's (hopefully) got more money than he needs to live out his life in Louisiana. He wants more access to the team and the program and the fans who love him. Guessing he's primarily a ceremonial hire because Lane likes to have him around and he makes people close to the program happy. If he can charm a recruit's parent who remembers the '19 championship or let somebody's little brother try on his championship ring, he'll have provided a service.
