Gopher Football Parking Updates, Per the U

They probably got a nice grant for the project as well reducing the cost.
Yes, plus rebates and incentives are in place and the U has consistently exceeded the energy savings goals set by Xcel, receiving close to $900,000 in 2024.

Oak Street Ramp has had repeated issues with overselling parking, including to season ticket holders who prepaid for guaranteed parking, only to be told upon arrival that the ramp was full and they needed to find parking elsewhere, with no refund or assistance provided by the U.
Thats brutal. I always assumed that a spot in the ramp is included when you buy a spot in the ramp. Guess I was wrong.

Sounds like the Seinfeld rental car bit. "We have the reservation, we just dont have a car." "But the reservation keeps the car here, thats why we have the reservation."

Back when I had a parking pass there, I thought it was all event parking on game days...or they had a way of monitoring access to non-event parkers? I never ran into any issues. These days, I just park close to the Westgate greenline stop and use the train. Super convenient.

There a ton of contract parking spots in oak st. The u probably just guesses at how many will be occupied on game day.

I also once had a "reserved" spot at a ramp in Chicago and it was full when I got there. I guess it's relatively common?

That’s what we thought too, but since it’s a parking garage, there doesn’t appear to be any overnight parking restriction or time limit that I’m aware of. My guess is a lot of college kids parked there the night before, went out partying, and either stayed with friends or got hotels, leaving their cars overnight and contributing to the ramp filling up.

At the end of the day, I can’t really complain if it meant people avoided getting a DWI and made the right decision even if it ended up costing me an extra $30.

If im understanding the problem right, it is fair to complain about the U taking your money, not providing the spot you paid for, and not refunding your money, even if the reason for the spot unavailability is reasonable.

Everyone knows airlines overbooks their flights. That means sometimes someone gets bumped to a later flight. The airlines dont get to say "sorry, we're full, you need to go find another ticket to buy if you still want to fly, but we're keeping your money for the seat on the plane we did not provide you."

When Oak St was full they sent me to the River Road Ramp and my pass worked there. So no money lost but I lost about an hour with the traffic getting over there and then the longer walk. But yeah...they shouldn't be overselling the ramp.

Has anyone gone through the upgrade process this year? I have 3 seats I'm trying to move. I get to the very last step to confirm and an error is given and I'm forced to cancel.

Are you trying to move your three into a space with four open seats? The default setting in their program is that they will not allow you to leave just one seat open. Whether that is your issue or not, I'd call and get help. That has worked for me in the past.

I have seats 4-5-6. Seats 1-2-3 in my row are open so I'm literally just trying to move to my immediate right. I'll try again tomorrow.

Coincidentally currently seat 7 in my row is open and that's the only one. Been that way for years. I sort of like having the buffer because it seldom gets sold (except for the obnoxious Nebraska fan who was flying solo). I understand the reason to not allow that. Somehow I think it got grandfathered.

I would think if I moved that would be the best solution for the University. Instead of 1-2-3-7 open it would just be 4-5-6-7.

Good luck. Sounds like the kind of thing that shouldn't be a problem. Buddy wanted to move his five seats into a row with six open. Program wouldn't allow it, but a phone call and a chat with a ticket rep was able to help after getting approval for an override from a manager.

My favorite spot is on Carlton & University, right next to the Raymond Ave Station. Have to get there early, though.
