Your favorite bits of Gopher lore or obscure details

You can tell who the long-time die hard fans are if they are still wearing the long-sleeved gold shirts they used to give away to season ticket holders at the Metrodome. There are fewer and fewer of us each year, and the shirts themselves are breaking down, but they're still out there.

It's the offseason and we have months until the opener so, let's look back a bit. What are some of your favorite facts or memories that only Minnesota fans can remember or pick out. For me, here are some:
  • Tim Brewster’s “Get Your Chili Hot” phrase
  • Tim Brewster’s post game handshake in the 2010 Axe game Vs. Wisconsin
  • The 2012 “No More Minnesota Nice” shirts
  • The AggieVision/Casa De Autos broadcast in the 2013 Minnesota Vs. New Mexico State game.
  • Breaking the Governor’s Victory Bell Trophy in the celebration after beating Penn State in 2013
  • The Minnesota Special Teams social media run from 2014-2016
  • ESPN, namely Beth Mowins, trying to get the nicknames “smash and bash” to stick for Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks in 2016
  • Mike Grimm’s “Win a pie for it” call of Tyler Johnson’s long touchdown in the 2017 opener Vs. Buffalo
  • Vince Vaughn being the guest picker for the 2020 pandemic season opener on College Gameday
Re: the special teams social media - Pete Mortell was hilarious. Introduced me to Faux Pelini, Sam Foltz (NE punter) and Mike Sadler (MI State punter). I was devastated by the deaths of Foltz and Sadler in a car accident in 2016. They and Pete were so funny together.

Personally, watching Chip Lohmiller win the game at Michigan in 1986. What a final possession that was! Even now, when we need a kick, I say "Chip would make it."

All were great, but "Get Your Chili Hot" was a personal favorite!
Aggie Vision Casa De Autos. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
The breaking of the Victory Bell Trophy was a missed opportunity.

Chair leg in eye socket, and the subplot of the stein, has to be an all time great story!

Aggie Vision Casa De Autos: I don’t remember this one.

Mike Leach missing media fans and happy hour. Get together the day before the bowl game because he was still hungover and drunk from the night before. God bless Scottsdale

Da'Jon McKnight's TD against USC in the 3rd quarter in 2010 to take the lead. After that embarrassing loss to South Dakota the week before, for a brief moment I actually thought we could beat USC (who wasn't that great that year compared to their history, but it's still USC).

Aggie Vision Casa De Autos: I don’t remember this one.
Sorry, I lumped the OP's points together. Aggie Vision was the low quality coverage/ production of the game. Casa De Autos (now closed) was the sponsor (appeared to be the only one).

2014 San Jose State University game that was rain delayed in the 4th quarter, Chris Strevler started the game and only completed 1 of 7 passes for 7 yards but rushed it 18 times for 161 yards and a TD.

David Cobb also has 207 yards rushing that day along with 2 TDs.

I was at that game. So ugly but so awesome at the same time.

I always enjoyed 'win a pie for it' and after Bateman's opening drive TD vs. PSU in 2019 'this place has gone nuclear.'

I use both lines more times than most should and everyone looks at me like WTF?

D Jacksons 4th down end zone catch to tie the huskers and then the turnover and FG to win opening night in 2023. I remember leaving and seeing all the devastated husker fans. It was glorious.
I could be remembering wrong as I approach 50, but wasn't it the other way around? I thought the FG was first, then we went for it on 4th because we had to. If we were down by 2 scores on that 4th down, pretty sure we kick the FG first.

Nonetheless, great memory. Wasn't that Rhule's first game? To have it end like so many of the Scott Frost games....

TD on 4th and goal from like the 13 with a little over 2 minutes left. Then as Nebraska was approaching midfield, the fumble happened and a few plays later we kicked the FG as time expired.

I can taste the red corn flavored tears still !

Thanks for jogging my memory - I do recall it being like that now, with the FG last.

Like I said, getting old.

As for the tears, I used to be on a husker board so reading it the next day was great.

The fumble occurred when Nebraska was up 10-3 with about 5 minutes left. Gophers then scored the TD to tie it. Then Nubin with the INT with about a minute left. Gophers move the ball enough to get into FG range to win it.

That's right. It was INT. I knew they went 2 possessions in a row causing a turnover.

Watching Gophers crush UCLA 21 to 3 in 1962 Rose Bowl on TV in Lefty's Lefty's living room with Lefty's Lefty AND the great Lefty himself.

We watched the game on Lefty's Magnificent Magnavox!

The 10-7 win over Kent St in 2015 was the worst win I've ever witnessed in person. Offense managed 32 yards over the last 6 possessions against a team that ended up winning just 2 games in the MAC. The offense could do nothing and handed Kent St their only 7 points of the game.
I was there, it was awful. The three wins after losing a close one to No. 2 TCU (which went on to finish 11-2 overall and ranked No. 7) was deflating. I remember someone on here saying something like "I've never felt worse about being 3-1" after barely beating Ohio.
