Minneapolis Lakers were 4 of 11 in the NBA to help the cause.
Also North Stars were like 0/28
You're using your own personal definition "success" that few share. You're welcome. I genuinely appreciate the acknowledgement.
Stable track record of non-success for the current Vikings Ownership group.
There is undoubtedly "better than that" for lots of fanbases across the NFL. Some even make it to Canton, OH.
AND SO, with the above truth established, I give you a worse market than MSP: Detroit.
They have all four major professional leagues. They're also a medium large metro, not huge, but not small. Also northern climate. Also with a strong local hockey history, both college and professional.
Tigers - last WS appearance in 2012, which they lost (last WS win: 1984)
Pistons - last NBA Finals appearance in 2004-05, which they lost (last win: 2003-04)
Red Wings - last Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2008-09, which they lost (last win: 2007-08)
Lions - have never gone to a Super Bowl
Lions objectively worse than Vikings in that sense, in spite of all progress they've made under Dan Campbell, zero SB to show for it.
I grant that the Pistons are #1 seed in the Eastern this playoffs ... but so what?? They need game 7 to take care of the Cavs, assuming that actually happens? They're done. They won't beat th

BingoDetroit worse than Minnesota? Terrible take
I would take Detroit’s “success” over Minnesota in a heartbeat. They have won a title in my lifetime.
Detroit also has the University of Michigan which has now won a basketball and football title just within the last 2 years.
You're using your own personal definition "success" that few share.
The Vikings regular season winning percentage over the Wilfs ownership period says otherwise.
Should have been SB winners the 2009 season. Could have made the SB in 2017. Several franchises have done much worse.
Here is the massive, foundational problem with this thread and those who support it and think like it:
trying to pretend that a drought of 20 years is 2x worse than a drought of 10 years, and that a drought of 30 years is 3x worse than a drought of 10 years.
FALSE.
Badness saturates at 10 years.
If you haven't been in 10 years .... then that's no less worse than not having gone in 20 or 30 years. There is no "extra" pain once you get past 10.
That's the core fallacy that everyone who gins up this thread is propagating.
You were born after 1991? I guess that's possible, but tough for me to believe because younger people don't use message boards. That's an older person thing.Detroit worse than Minnesota? Terrible take

One of the dumbest things I've heard all week. Sorry. Here is the massive, foundational problem with this thread and those who support it and think like it:

It is as false a premise as your made-up definition of success. The is the Title of the Thread too ambiguous for ya?
You must not get out much. One of the dumbest things I've heard all week. Sorry.
Pain isn't tied to the number of years. It's tied to moments. It doesn't saturate. You must not get out much.
Maybe, but actually I'm probably exactly correct.
Life is not linear. Trees don't keep growing at a linear rate up into outer space. A piece of cake doesn't keep getting sweeter linearly as you dump more and more sugar into the batter and frosting.
Real life is non-linear. Pain saturates at 10 years of absence. 20 years isn't 2x worse. It's the same
How did you not just prove my point??Pain isn't tied to the number of years. It's tied to moments. It doesn't saturate.
I was 2 years old in 1991 so didn't experience those.
In 1998, I cried over the Vikings. Two years later, they got their asses kicked about 41-0 and I didn't feel anything. Then Brett Favre 09 stung was more than 2000 but not like 1998.
Gopher hockey: 2014 broke my heart. But I had hope. But then the biggest choke in Gopher sports history happened in 2023 and I was completely shattered and a part of my fandom died that day.
My point is it's not linear but it doesn't just go away.
I only care about Gopher hockey, but the idea can be applied. How did you not just prove my point??
You just proved that as the time drags on, it matters less and less, not each year exactly the same (pain) as each additional year before it.
I disagree we're talking about the same thing.I only care about Gopher hockey, but the idea can be applied.
2023 (21 years after the last title) was infinitely more painful than 2014, 2012, 2006, etc.
Every year without a title makes the overall pain worse.
No it wouldn't have.It would have felt just as badly to you even if they had won the natty in 2014.
That you didn't feel almost the exact same pain after they lost to MSU the year before, proves I'm right. You should have been agonizing "ahhhh why!! It has been 20 years since the last title, noooo!!" but you just admitted you didn't.No it wouldn't have.
You were born after 1991? I guess that's possible, but tough for me to believe because younger people don't use message boards. That's an older person thing.
Anyway, it's not difficult to do an objective, head to head comparison:
MLB - Twins: no WS appearance in the last 10+ years, Tigers: no WS appearance in the last 10+ years
NHL - Wild: no SC appearance in the last 10+ years, Red Wings: no SC appearance in the last 10+ years
NBA - Twolves: no NBAF appearance in the last 10+ years, Pistons: no NBAF appearance in the last 10+ years
NFL - Vikings: no SB appearance in the last 10+ years, Lions: no SB appearance in the last 10+ years
Since NFL is the most important league by far, that is the tie-breaker and the Vikings are objectively better than the Lions. Done, MSP > Detroit
College cannot be used in this thread. Completely irrelevant
It is as false a premise as your made-up definition of success.
2025 Vikings > 2025 Lions, last I checkedBy your own metric of advancing in the NFL Playoffs in the past 10 seasons to the Final 8, the Lions and Vikings are tied. 2 apiece.
The Lions smoked the Vikings in the 2024 Season Finale to earn the NFC North Title and #1 Seed, something the Vikings have not done in the past 10 years or ever under the Wilfs regime.
Motown > Funkyrown.
The premise is a false interpretation of irrelevant factsThe premise is cut and dry. Defined by facts.
I only care about Gopher hockey, but the idea can be applied.

34 pages of discussion have deemed the facts relevant. The premise is a false interpretation of irrelevant facts
The whole discussion is beyond odd in this pillow fight of determining "superiority between the Lions &; Vikings" especially in the past 10 seasons.2025 Vikings > 2025 Lions, last I checked
I have no doubt you'll try to wave your hands again, in some other odd way
Umm ask the people that have to deal with me on the hockey forum. I have been agonizing like that my entire adulthood. That you didn't feel almost the exact same pain after they lost to MSU the year before, proves I'm right. You should have been agonizing "ahhhh why!! It has been 20 years since the last title, noooo!!" but you just admitted you didn't.
