Four Commits from Moorhead with the new commitment of CB Zac Walker

Do you really think that a small school football team has 4 B1G players on the same team. I don’t.

It's kind of funny to me watching us get kids from NDSU backyard when online they keep talking about they'll steal our recruits and turning into sour grapes when they chose MN over NDSU

(Too my knowledge, we've lost one player NDSU where we offered scholarship and that was PJ's first year when he tried to flip a TE the day before NSD)

I always wonder if there was a 10 mph tailwind when they run these times, but he did place 5th as a 10th grader last year at 10.87 so 10.57 this year seems legit and he still has his senior year. Notice last year that he's the only sophomore in the top 9 and trailed the state leaders by a few tenths. It's hard to quibble with a 10.57, but it's nice to put into context. He might be the fastest kid in the state this year or next.

Oh, I found the meet, Hamline Elite, where he ran the 10.57. He took third by a tenth and lost to two seniors.

According to this Ryan Burns article the 10.57 time is no fluke, as he's run 10.63 on three separate occassions. So, I'd say he's backed it up.

It’s impressive but there have been schools with multiple power 4 guys not make the state tourney.
4 isn’t unheard of.

But I don’t necessarily think all 4 will end up contributors
Well, this is at least one MN school that put four players in the P5 (at that time) from one Minn school, as they were a powerhouse at that time, with another school having 4 players that could have went to the P5. According to Ryan Burns:

You'd have to go all the way to 2008, when Cretin-Derham Hall had Michael Floyd go to Notre Dame, Joe Schafer to Wisconsin, and Shady Salamon and John Nance to Minnesota. Minnehaha Academy had four Division I commits back in 2020, but Jalen Suggs chose basketball, while Kaden Johnson (Wisconsin), Craig McDonald (Iowa State), and Terry Lockett (Michigan State) stuck on the gridiron.

Can you name another high school in America that has had 4 commits to the Gophers in the same recruiting year? Where all 4 enrolled.….. I am waiting….
I'm so glad you asked!

Skyline High School!

Now will all 4 likely turn into major contributors? No probably not, recruiting is a crapshoot but they all have features to like and develop. We flat out aren't a team that is going to get all 5 stars. We've gotta identify traits that can improve. And I think we have with these 4.

And in this day and age if it's not working out they will transfer down in a year or 2. No more being stuck with guys for 3 or 4 years.

ESPN has these kids ranked in the state...
2, Walker
5, Mack
7, Feeney
8, Reich

That much talent on one team, makes all the sense in the world to keep them together as Gophers. Here's to more success for the Spuds, and locking that school down as a pipeline.

what exactly is your issue with the Gophers getting 4 commits from the same school?

In 2019 we had 7 guys from Eden Prairie on the roster and 3 from IMG Academy ... did they enroll the same year?

Can you name the player(s) that you don’t think we should have offered? Or have you just arbitrarily decided that three is the limit that should come from one high school?

Neither team won state I believe

Fleck continues to crush the model I like. Get the best local and HS kids you can get. Continue to develop them. Do well in the portal to fill gaps.

Maybe the Moorhead HC is ready to move to the metro and coach program down here.
I agree, Maxy! Go out and get the kids that fit your program and see who develops. Not all the young men may work out but you just don't know when they are 17 and 18 years old. I love how Fleck approaches his recruiting. Minnesota is definitely a developmental program that has had great success with the portal. 2026 and beyond looks very promising. Go Gophers!

We should put in a two hundred yard football field!
Ha. Reminds me of the Bum Phillips line about Earl Campbell. Campbell hadn't completed or did very poorly on a 2 mile run in training camp. When someone in the press asked him what that foretold, Bum said, "we'll, if it's 3rd and 2 miles, I'll give the ball to someone else". That's close, anyway.
