Minnesota Wild vs Colorado Avalanche Series Thread

Agreed, on the first paragraph.

My point on the second part is that most appear to be ready to move on from the others despite some still being skilled.

Brodin hasn't played a full season since like 2019 and doesn't contribute much of anything offensively.
Spurgeon gets mauled in the playoffs and also produces minimally with now having gotten an upgraded offensive defenseman in Hughes with Faber also having taken the next step. For his contract cost, he is massively underproducing
Moose is a fun fan player who is a bottom line guy. He can come back but if he leaves it is no real large loss
Bogo should be done playing but if he wants to be a healthy scratch kind of guy, that's fine
Middleton threw out arguably the worst stretch in his career this playoff and looked off. People really liked to throw out the "goal" stat, while ignoring it is our PK which is just fucking terrible and he kills for us. He was a -2. Is he a great player? absolutely not. Is he fine as a healthy scratch, bottom pair player? Yeah I think so.

So I think the Ek stuff is he's a contributor when healthy. The rest of the crew either is well past their prime on too hefty of contracts for what they produce (Brodin, Spurgeon, Foligno) or just looked terrible acutely (Bogo, Middleton) so people are willing to dump them.

Yeah, I absolutely agree on all of that. Just didn’t know how many people shared that opinion.

Based off those details, does the question become how much of the D corps do they feel comfortable changing in one offseason?

Also, would you trade Ek for Jack Hughes/where would you draw the line?

Also yes for Hughes because it also locks you up Quinn coupled with he is a great offensive player who's not a total liability defensively while being on a fantastic contract (through 2030 at 8mil AAV). Would have the best top 6 group of wingers in the league.

Obviously leaves a bigger gap at center, but doesn't hurt you much in terms of cap space (and would suspect you'd have to throw in a goalie with it; wouldn't move Wally/Ek but Gus/Ek yeah).

As far as the D core, Bogo/Middsy are entirely replaceable plug and play guys that you can find multiple of. Brodin and Spurgeon it gets a little more interesting due to Spurgeon being a R shot and Brodin when healthy being a solid PKer of which we are in short supply (Quinn is not going to become a PK guy) coupled with you would have to find suitors good with taking their contracts on. I know lots of people wanting them gone, but I'll be extremely surprised if they both would be and mildly surprised if they're not both on the roster come next fall. It's Spurgeon's last year likely. They're not going to trade the captain. Brodin would be the far more likely of the 2 to have some interest imo.

Thanks for breaking down that there are instances in which trading Ek makes sense.

Agreed on Bogo and Middleton. Will be very interesting to see what they do with the other two.

It would be nice to see some of the young guys start to get some more time.
