Per Cassidy:

This spring, there wasn’t much time for Gophers women’s basketball to revel in its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2018.

The program had to quickly re-sign players and get to work in the transfer portal if it wanted to build off its first Sweet 16 run in more than two decades.

“In the portal, we were in a different place than we’ve been in past years,” coach Dawn Plitzuweit told the Minnesota Star Tribune. “The success that our program had kind of put us on the map with some young ladies who [before] maybe we didn’t necessarily have a chance to have some of those further conversations with.”

Plitzuweit, entering her fourth season leading the program, was able to lock down key returners and land three transfers to fill in for the five Gophers out of eligibility, including starting point guard Amaya Battle and center Sophie Hart.

With a top-20 incoming freshman class, success has only raised the ceiling — and expectations — of a program that was 24-9 overall and 13-5 in Big Ten play last season.
