Spring Game

We were the worst rushing team in the Big Ten last year, I think it’s a fair concern for fans.
100% a fair concern heading into 2026 season, just foolish to expect something like the spring game to put those fears to bed or be an accurate preview of what we can expect in the upcoming season.

No need to call me foolish

I agree can't take much out of a spring game, I too am really hoping for a solid Oline and a healthy DT for 2026.
This will be the best Qb/Wr group since 2019. Likely won't use the Tight End much now that Geers has graduated. I can't speak to the the Oline or DT's.

The thoughts are LB's are eh in coverage but good run stoppers. WR's are solid this year and backup QB is definitely a position battle to watch. Kicker seems to be in a good place. RB's look to be alright. OL and possibly TE is still up in the air. DE seems okay. DI may also be a question. Season will probably come down to the OL and a TE.

I don't think there is much of a battle. Shikenjanski is going to be the backup. I think this was evidenced by him taking 80% of the Maroon team's snaps. Merdinger is going to be #3 this year and Lansu will redshirt. Maybe they'll flip Merdinger and Lansu around on the depth chart based on who gets more reps vs who runs scout team in practice. But I can't see Shik being unseated as the number 2.

Not that it really matters anymore, but by May there likely won't be any more redshirts when the 5 to play 5 is official. QB4 will be QB4.

Go Gophers!!

Something that always happens at these...Fleck blows his whistle at least once with his mic on.

Good for Shik! I always viewed him as just coming here to be a part of the team, etc. since his dad played here. Never really thought a PWO would be QB2.

Hard work paying off it seems.

Hard work and a willingness to stay put. So many QBs are jumping around in search of playing time. Great to have a backup who has been in the system for multiple years. Can't really count on that as much these days.

I’d be surprised if we don’t continue to throw to our tight ends. Geers only had 8 more catches than Biber last year. The tight ends had about 50 catches total last year. I think the TE targets were a result of Harbaugh’s offense, not a result of the particular players we had at that position. I think Walsh will be sneaky good.

I was thinking more from the experience lost stand point and who would step in. Make a good point as I don’t think many expected Biber to get as many catches as he did. It would be great if Walsh/Peters could step up. Wonder if anyone will take Biermans role of hybrid fullback.

The WR group looks like the deepest in Fleck's tenure anyway. I don't have any thoughts on this year's offensive line other than hoping it's better than the last few years but Fleck certainly appears to have loaded up on defensive linemen. The defensive line was the best component of the team last season and it looks like the coaches were determined to keep that strong.

I think it would take a lot to beat the 2019 WR room. Autman-Bell would be #1 whereas he was #3 in 2019. Maybe after the season we can revisit if anyone performs like Bateman or TJ.

This group is much deeper than 3 or even 4 if you included Douglas is the point that's being made. The Qb is better too. It's not really even close. Not one or two have to perform at the level of Bateman or Tj.

Bateman and TJ were both 1st Team All-Big 10 in 2019. We don't have two 1st Team guys on our roster. But I do believe we have 6 guys in the WR room in 2026 that could contribute this season. I don't believe that was the case in 2019. I agree, this should be the most depth that Fleck has had in the WR room. Tracy, Smith, Jennings, Moore, Thompson, Steptoe
