All Things 2026 Transfer Portal Thread

Ryan James from GI just reported that Gophers are going after 1 more plus a walk—on. No positions mentioned. Maybe Wilkerson from SdSU will get a look
We’ve been told many times on this board that there is no such thing as a walk on in the modern era.

Lincoln is a fine city, but transferring from San Diego to Lincoln will be culture shock! Nice facility, though, and lots of NIL from boosters.
But the weather is pretty much the same so there’s that.

Last year in college, big paycheck and he has to make it on a big stage to have a chance at the NBA, so why not. There is always overseas in two years.
Agreed he's gonna get a big paycheck but I'm betting he ends up riding the pine for Malone.. He's not going to have the green light to take any and every shot he wants and not play any defense.

Michigan lands Mustapha Thiam. Lose one NBA big man, bring in another. Wash, rinse, repeat.

So glad the gophers were able to pay for his surgery and rehab 🙄
Unfortunate but it is also entirely possible that we didn't want him back or he wasn't interested in coming off the bench. Will be shocked if Asuma and Evans are not the starting back court next year.

Who chooses Kent State over the B10??? Makes me think Niko told him he was free to look at other options......
Well we pretty much know that Kent State wasn't competing on the basis of NIL $. So yeah, I would guess Niko either offered him the minimum or told him that he might have a better shot to shine elsewhere. I think Niko liked him, but it may have been an issue of fit.

It feels to me like it is a high priority for Niko that all of his guards and wings be decent to very good shooters. I may be wrong on this, but from the little I saw of him last year, jump-shooting was not his strong suit.

Also FT%. I mentioned this in the other thread, but he was a 46% FT shooter last year and I'm sure he would have raised that closer to his previous year 72%...but I'm really glad to have Kyan Evans who shot 85% his breakout year under Niko.

Fun fact: Cade Tyson shot 86%, 86%, 56%, 82% FT for his career. Kyan Evans went from 85% under Niko to 69% under Hubert Davis. You'd think FT% would be the thing most unlikely to wildly change based on competition level etc. but it seems so much more mental than mechanical.

Nolen Anderson was a 90%FT shooter in HS. Winters Grady was 85% FT in a small sample size last year. Durkin 88%. Asuma 74%. Shinholster 75%. JCJ 72%. Looking forward to having these guys on the floor at the end of the game.

Not sure it's been posted anywhere yet, but Matas Deniusas from Tennessee-Martin committed to Rhode Island last week. Lumping him with the Willis discussion because I think both made playing time decisions.

Yes, I saw that posted in various places. I think it hadn't been mentioned here because, as of yesterday, the commitment still didn't show up on either 247 or On3's portal trackers. This one stings because Rhode Island is the same place where Cochran went (and had a good season) after spending a year here without playing a game.

UNC doesn't believe in practicing free throws
