New Executive Order on College Sports

I said what I said 😉
Alright, I'll play along.

I think it's one thing if a guy like a Chris Weinke comes back after years of playing one professional sport to attempt different one.....but do you really think it wouldn't affect people watching if college sports was suddenly overrun by a bunch of people in their mid-30s? I think a lot of people would object.

Has JJ McCarthy crushed season ticket demand?

Fans will put up with a lot. Literally almost anything.

Does the Executive order require Conferences to go back to no more than 12 Teams comprised of Members within the same geographical area (as well as geographic Divisions for football)?

Those have impacted my enjoyment of Collegiate Sports at least as much as NIL & Transfer Portal.

Sadly the big ten and their partners will say restricting a conference’s ability to form new private contracts or impairing their ability to seek out their market value would clearly violate the Sherman Antitrust Act and is absolutely a bridge too far. Too bad. Labor law? Never heard of it!

Worldwide inflation began towards the end of the Trump term and continued for a couple years before dropping back to normal levels towards the end of Biden's term. It's started accelerating once again under Trump entirely due to unneeded trade wars, tariffs, and now an unnecessary war. You can just say that you don't pay any attention to what's happening around you. It's not breaking news.

So you don't understand how trends work? Look at when the uptrend began. Not that it was Trump's fault for COVID. Much like how it wasn't Biden's fault.....or for Russia's attack on Ukraine. Tariffs, trade wars, and the Iran war however.....all unnecessary. Current inflationary trend completely owned by Diaper Don.

He owns some of it, but your complete dismissal of monetary policy and the outrageousness of the free money society during the Biden years is astounding. Again, not sure what that has to do with gophers football,

Very good take. I remember becoming much less interested in college basketball when the old big east broke up.

Yeah, and I miss the Classic PAC 8/10/12 matchup with the Big 10, and the PAC 8/10/12 as a Conference for that matter.

The "free money society".....just lol. Trump also sent out stimulus payments. You do realize this, right? The $2.2 TRILLION dollar CARES Act? That wasn't Biden.

Hey, if being willfully ignorant helps you sleep at night.....

Never in the course of human history has a person bought a product because of a celebrity endorsement. Did you seek out Hertz because of OJ? Hmm, yeah ok. No. No, it is sheer vanity and indulgence. Ok, maybe Cindy Crawford sold a few Pepsi. Maybe.
This is just a critique of advertising as a concept.

It has no valid linkage specifically to college athletics and NIL.

Would you object to eligibility limits on Fleck or Mark. Yes, because it’s stupid. If a guy wants to spend 15 years in college while playing football would that really upset you?

No, it wouldn’t.

.
It would upset me as much as a man pretending to be a woman playing and dominating in women's sports. I'd refuse to watch.

College sports should only be played by 18-23 year olds who are enrolled and actively seeking or completed their first bachelor's degree during their time of play.

End of story

Otherwise, go turn pro and best of luck.

Why? Why shouldn't players be able to profit off their NIL? Considering all of the ways that big money bastardizes politics in this country......why would anyone draw a line here......at college athletics? Fact is that the NCAA fucked up big time. Selfish piggies had butt loads of time to figure out a way to fairly compensate the athletes and they drug their feet like morons. They opened up the box and now have to figure a way to close it. I don't know what that even begins to look like now that the courts have ruled in favor of the athletes.....but the players should absolutely get their piece of the billions of dollars that they generate.
Agreed and a CBA outside of employment (new law, if needed) would be the best way to do that.

And the few players who genuinely warrant bonafide endorsement deals should indeed still be able to have those deals on the side. That's not what collectives are.

As a kid I begged my parents for a Joe Namath Popcorn Maker. Lasted for decades.

As an adult I have owned several George Foreman Grills.

I know my Grandparents swore by the Joe DiMaggio Mr Coffee machine, even though the family was Dodger (then later Mets) fans. Hated the Yankees. Loved the product

It'll never be issued as a law because that doesn't really make any sense.. It'll need to be an agreement that is made between the NCAA and the schools collectively.....and will probably end up looking more like a salary cap of sorts.

You think advertising doesn't work?

Strange take

Won't the courts strike it down if the players aren't involved? I mean, the schools and the NCAA did have an agreement about punishing players who accepted cash/violated their "amateur" status, etc - then the Supreme Court struck it down, right?

Reggie Bush comes to mind as someone who accepted "NIL" and was in violation of this agreement between schools and the NCAA. (If you want to argue there was no agreement then ask yourself why USC accepted punishment.)

I don't know everything that went into the court cases.....but I think it was mostly about players being able to profit off their NIL without losing the ability to compete. So as far as individual NIL deals.....not sure much can be done. But I believe the schools and the NCAA could put rules in place as to how payments from the school to the players work. If they're going to be compensated in a fashion similar to pro athletes.....why can't the NCAA and the schools work out contract situations?

There are millions of kids who bought Jordan basketball shoes.

Nobody wins in the hyperbole wars. The only winning move is not to play the game.

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned Tony Little and the Gazelle. I love a good pitchman, which is why I like Fleck. Billy Mays missed his calling. Ding King, anybody?
