All things golf

Whatever ESPN is doing with Kelce and Hart (and whatever else they have been doing), it's just plain a terrible idea. Unsurprising from a shitstorm network like the "worldwide leader".

I watched over 4 hours of coverage today on ESPN. Never saw Kelce or Hart once.

Had no idea they were even in Augusta until seeing this.

Outtasite. Outtamind.

I just wish Scott Van Pelt was able to stick around with CBS for the Final 36.

Kelce and Hart dominated the TV coverage of the Par 3 event on Wednesday and it was pretty nauseating. I dont recall seeing them mentioned at all yesterday but ESPN's overproduction of their broadcast has been "aggressive" to say the least.

I agree on SVP...he does great work.

Thanks for clarifying were one might have caught the Kelce and Hart experience.

So an event in which WAGs and 3 yr kids serve as Caddies and are even allowed to hit balls as well as a few putts got a little loose? Oh, my. :D

I think I watched it once, just to get a glimpse of Arnie Palmer hit a few shots. It's struck me as the 1 day a year in which Augusta National lets it's hair down for a minute.

Damn. Dry conditions are just going to make the course harder and harder. I would think the people teeing off early today will have a slight edge on those playing later (just like yesterday).

Hoping it doesn't get so dry and firm that it looks "gimmicky" and not a true good test of golf. The greens already aren't holding much at all, balls landing in the middle and bouncing/rolling over the green.

Still should be great theater.

Wyndham Clark and Tyrell Hatton making some early moves today to take advantage of playing early.

I tune in a little for the potential aces (of which there were 4) and the kids/wives trying to clear the lake on #9. If there is anyone less funny on the planet than Kevin Hart, I haven't come across them yet.

TBF, I also despise virtually everything ESPN has morphed into over the last ten (10) years. Charlie Steiner leaving was the beginning of the end for me and that was quite a while ago.

I don't despise ESPN, but for the most part after Dan Patrick bailed and later Bill Simmons, the only thing I consume regularly with enthusiasm is Pardon the Interruption. Other than that, it's SVP once in a while on a SportsCenter after big event. That's it.

I do not care about ESPN one way or another. Ambivalent.

Now they are completely in bed with NFL Network. I am sure that will work out fantastic.

What a leaderboard going into the weekend:

Rory, P Reed, my guy Fleet, Day, Rose, Burns

Pins were gettable today. With the course so hard and fast, they can make it incredibly difficult. Even par will be a great score Saturday and I think the winner will be 9 or 10 under

What a back nine for Rory. Finishes at -12 and now with a 6 stroke lead. If tomorrow was Sunday I’d probably say this is over but 36 holes is a lot for strange things to happen

"Not even you could blow this lead, Rory."

Proceeds to quad bogey hole 1 on Saturday.

Not a good tourney for the LIV guys. That's a shame.

I was going to say Patrick Reed was on LIV, but I see he left at end of 2025 and is playing on DP Tour. Shows how much I follow LIV

I know people love to hate him from the cheating incidents, but I really like him as a bad boy sort. Might have the best short game in the world. Hope he's back on PGA next year

Ex-LIVers Reed & Koepka at least are showing well. Other than that, Hatton is under par.

DJ is Even. He might go down as the most "Under Achieving 2 Time Major Winner of All Time". Right there with The Shark, who also happens to have showed him the money.

The surprising thing about Rory's round was the number he put up despite spraying several tee shots on the back 9. Punched out on 13, 15 & 17 but still birdied all 3, including a chip in on 17.

A couple more of those tee balls could bring the field back in.

If he follows the sage advice from Jack, "No EFF-ing double bogeys!", he can present the Green Jacket to himself in the Butler Cabin on Sunday.

I'm assuming he is on the DP because he isn't eligible to return to the PGA for a year I believe?

Reed is playing really well, and as you said, he even complimented himself on the current quality of his short game.

For me, even though it's never been "proven", I have a hard time cheering for him after the cheating accusations in college. Leaving for LIV just further solidified my dislike for him.

Tom Watson certainly wasn't pleased that the PGA allowed him and Koepka back:

If I'm not mistaken, only one player has missed more fairways than Rory, and that player was dead last at #91. But that's one thing you can do at Augusta, it's spray it off the tee.

13 & 15 certainly, if one is fortunate enough to not be stymied. Other holes, not so much.

Fairways hit issues are also is not as big of a deal as The US Open, as there really is not any penalizing rough at Augusta.

Umm...I think I nailed it.

His double was after he piped one, but just too many scrambling pars that let others through the door to make up ground.

Eventually the wedges & putter let him down too. It was all he could do just to stay in the Final Pairing for Sunday.

Looks like we got a ballgame.

I am always blown away by the stupidity and ignorance and often times even worse that athletes have to put up with from members of the media. Good grief....

Complaining about the LIV players is funny to me. If you had a job offer that was going to pay you tens of millions more and you also get to work less, I think most people on this board are going to take that deal.

It's better for golf to have these players back on the PGA tour. If the sponsors were mad they left, they should have paid them more. The 'they should be banned for life' crowd is just jealous.

I'd take the deal and I'm not complaining they did. I also reserve the right to cheer against them which I do vigorously.

If you pay all the expenses for an employee's training along with providing them with a platform to achieve success and wealth only to have them bolt to your biggest competitor, you'd be pissed off as a business owner, too.

They got a ton of cash but they sacrificed their career, image and in many cases, the quality of their game by not being pushed every week by strong fields and courses.

Tom Watson was absolutely correct. Any player wanting to come back to the PGA Tour should be required to compete on the Qualifying Tour rather than being handed back their spots while taking them away from others that remained loyal to the PGA.

My jealousy is not reserved only for the LIV players. I'm jealous of all of them. 🤷‍♂️

You can say this about an employee leaving pretty much any job in America. It happens everyday.

If you get hired back for the same job at your previous employer when you left to do the same job at a different employer for more moeny, you don't start at the bottom again.

Everyone knows Koepka, Reed, Rahm, DeChambeau etc are good enough to be on the PGA tour. They can all play in the majors but have to re-qualify to be on the tour? Come on.

After trying for the past 20+ years to get tickets to the Masters, my 80-year old Dad leaves on Sunday for Augusta.
Great for him😃
I've never seen him this excited before until I reminded him that the first thing Mom wants to check out is the Merchandise tents.
if you can wrangle some thoughts from them on the quality of the food that would be cool.

I remain dumbfounded by them charging only $3 for chicken and pulled pork sandwiches

Outrage is a great drug, as it’s legal, free and there’s a dealer/Twitter poster always there to supply more.

Maybe that was a sign you shouldn’t be watching the par 3 tournament😉?
