Freshman. Maybe late in the season but counting on him out of the box is not a good strategy.Don't forget Mpoyi.

Our approach to life is different. You see great and possible possibilities. I see wing span in a seven foot Evans.Maybe not for a coach....but for a fan?Seriously, I think he is going to be a difference maker. Is it going to take a little time? Maybe. The kid is super bright and it sounds like he is a quick study. If he can coached to be in the right places on both sides of the court, I don't see anyone else on the roster being close to the size he would give us.

Not saying this is the guy but we need a rim protector. Things are just so much easier when you have a Lynch (basketball only), oturu, Robbins.
Mpoyi- enjoy these clipsNot saying this is the guy but we need a rim protector. Things are just so much easier when you have a Lynch (basketball only), oturu, Robbins.
Who is the player you say they are working on?They will be leaning more towards bringing in younger transfers who will not be sure fire starters next year. They are working on a player now who is young for the post position.
Last week Mpoyi was named to 1st team All-County:Don't forget Mpoyi.
I can't imagine he would cost a ton at this point. And might get him for a bigger discount as he may want to come back to play for Niko. One thing is certain- we can't pay a bundle for him. I am all for getting him as a guy who has a chance to help. We need to spend our dough a couple of impact guys and I think Niko can get them. If Kyan is our third or fourth best portal guy- that would be terrific.
I would hope they are meeting with agents and not players at this point. It would be a serious case of player tampering if they are. Can't talk to players until they have entered the portal and at this point none are. This Crown Tournament has weird dynamics. The Final Four is coming up....everybody else is done for the season. Coaches are moving around and rumored to be all over the country. Somebody new gets in the portal every hour.
And yet, the Gophers are still playing basketball in the '25-26 season with six guys....but still, wait, not for a few days yet.
Weird dynamics....hopefully, and I'm quite sure we are burning the phone lines up recruiting at the same time. Crazy....
The only player Medved ever had at Colorado State that averaged more than one block per game for a season was.... David Roddy. All 6'5" of him. The next best season average came from the 6'5" Nique Clifford. Not saying this is the guy but we need a rim protector. This is the B1G 18. Relying on 6-7 something inside players isn’t going to cut it. The two worst games of the year, Indiana on the road and Rutgers in the tournament, were directly related to getting exploited inside. They absolutely need some height and strength inside to be able to compete every night. The only player Medved ever had at Colorado State that averaged more than one block per game for a season was.... Maybe some rim protection will come from a wing. Though Vaihola did manage more than one block per game at SJSU in his last season there.
Height and strength are not necessarily directly correlated with "rim protection" is my point. A 6'7" player that can prevent an opponent from sealing inside or feasting on offensive rebounds may provide greater rim protection than a taller player that accumulates a lot of blocks. Players that get a lot of blocks also foul more frequently. The Gophers were 25th in the nation in defensive free throw rate last season and their rate aligned with Medved's teams historically. Everyone can see the roster needs a big man, I just think people are going to be disappointed if they believe that big man needs to be a shot blocker. This is the B1G 18. No Strong Ass offer for him....
Probably doesn't like the idea of Will Wade being his coach
So, you think less height and fewer blocks = adequate rim protection? The only player Medved ever had at Colorado State that averaged more than one block per game for a season was.... David Roddy. All 6'5" of him. The next best season average came from the 6'5" Nique Clifford.

He still has eligibility? Seems like he's been there for 10 seasons.
I elaborated on my opinion in post #259. Everyone acknowledges the roster needs a big man. I don't believe that necessarily means 7 foot shot-blocker nor do I think a 7 foot shot-blocker is the only way to protect the rim.So, you think less height and fewer blocks = adequate rim protection?
Uhmmmm.....
Jumpy jumpy!
That's a lot of rebounds for a 6'6" forward!
He looks certifiably crazy.
