BREAKING: Coyle Hires Brett Larson as New Gophers Coach

Focusing on a one game sample over an entire year where they were ranked between 1-3 in the country. Also I wouldn't argue that Stramel getting hurt helped MSU.
It seems to be a moving target with how the one game tournament impacts team evaluations on here. When the Gophers have a high seed and lose in the tourney, its "well it doesn't matter if you cant finish the deal." But when another team does, its "one game doesn't erase how good they were for the full season." However we choose to evaluate success, we should at least be consistent.

100%, my gripe with Motzko in the one and done had more to do with how we lost some of the games, especially the Quinnipiac game but also getting dominated by the Cows and looking uncompetitive 2 years in a row. I agree that it's not the main thing I'd use to evaluate success or lack thereof though. Also rolling 4 lines consistently when you have extra TV timeouts was always questionable, Lucia would do that too even the years when the 4th line was really bad (eg: the year they played Yale).

If everyone is going to label Bob as a big game choker based off the one and done it's time to start criticizing Nightingale for not even making a Frozen Four with these teams he has had the last 3 years. Had a generational goaltender for 3 years too.

Yeah... MSU looked gassed both games IDK what happened there. They got outplayed by two inferior opponents back to back and they're kinda lucky Augustine stole one to get to the next round. Stramel getting hurt probably didn't help in the 2nd game but even without him they were the more talented team and should've won that game, especially up 3-1 with ~5 mins left.

As of now yup absolutely needs to be said

sorry only applies to gopher coaches

Of note, they also led vs Cornell 3-2 going into the 3rd and got outshot 12-7. Would've been almost a carbon copy of UND losing to Merrimack this year (Cornell got in winning the ECAC and was 13-10-6 before the ECAC tourney).

Don't even get me started on Greg Brown and Jay Pandolfo. Ditto on Naurato if they don't seal the deal this year.

Naurato's consistency of getting them to the Frozen 4 is impressive.

FoxNews watchers talking about educated responses :ROFLMAO:
Facts over feelings bud....

Using FBI-based 2024 city comparisons:

but if you don't win it all, doesn't matter if you ask the board here ;)
Titles separate the good from the great. Titles cement legacies.

Ok? Why are we cherrypicking one data point again?

Having alumni put their money where their mouth is will solve a lot of problems.
This. would be good to see a poll about how many of those bitching about the hire actually contribute $$$ to help the program.

I also don't see anyone offer up names regarding who would have been a better hire

You will see people put up the following names if you look around (and i'm sure bonin will respond to you).

Barr
Ferschweiler
some were on the Cashman (Dartmouth coach) bandwagon
Many were on the Potulny bandwagon as well

Unrealistic options people will mention that have more credentials: Carle, Nightengale

And I 100% agree with you on the money side and is part of why the U needs to address the elephant in the room of how they fundraise from the grassroots side as well.

To my knowledge there was one very vague unconfirmed tweet by an account looking for clicks. Pat Micheletti immediately stated it wasn’t true. Ferschweiler was never going to happen.
exactly. Larson costs much less too

Teddy Doherty - Shattuck-St.Mary's U-18 coach

Sounds like Coach Larson has already realized NIL is a problem and he's gonna have to rely on the name brand to get players more than the money. Dupont probably out of the picture, then.

or (given I assume you're basing this on being on KFAN today)..... he realizes he doesn't have to exclusively pay for players to try get top tier guys like you would at SCSU. He's been pretty on point saying NIL is important, but that the U and relationships also are additional important selling points.

Sounds like Michigan or Denver for Dupont

would move to recruiting thread, but that would certainly make UND fans disappointed as they thought they were in on him.

There's so much bizarre steam and no one really knows what's real (like all the Misa stuff last year). There's also been people saying UND feels good on Fitzhenry and that Gopher fans think we're getting him (I've seen zero indications either way on what he wants other than rumors, which people blow so much smoke). Same as people saying Ziemer was going to go to MSU.

Until there's something about a kid touring schools, it's all hard to say. There's just no one consistently plugged in nationally who does things like say 247 does for football and bball.

If only the state of Minnesota put as much effort into background checking the millions of taxpayer money they throw out to fraud in every single program as the U puts into background checks for assistant hockey coaches.

Just curious... do you keep a running list of things you hate about the U of MN? It must be quite a spreadsheet by now.

Aren't there plenty of political websites where you can spew all of your nonsense? You must be fun at parties.

Minnesota is the only state to ever have fraud, something our pedophile president has never once been involved in.
