It’s crazy to see Indiana 0-8 on conference. Could be 0-9 in about a minute lol

WA beats Maryland in 2OT. Lots of missed FTs in OT by both teams.

With about 3 minutes to go in the third quarter, USC has a 14 point lead on Iowa….

Wisconsin hung strong with The OSU for about 2 1/2 quarters and then succumbed to the press. Closer than it looked. Still think it will be a very tough game when Gophers visit Madison.

USC gave up 9 points in the last couple minutes, but still held on for a 12 point victory. They handed Iowa their first conference last.

They had taken out many of their starters at that point.

Will Sunday be Katie Geralds' final appearance in Williams Arena as Purdue coach? Will Iowa come into next week's Gopher game with 2-game losing streak? Any way the Gophers could beat the Hawkeyes in Iowa City?

Personally I feel like we would need all five starters to score in double digits to have a chance. The Iowa BIG duo is going to be tough.

...unless you get then in foul trouble, like USC did, without getting into foul trouble yourself (like the Gophers have a hard time doing).

I think we have a decent chance against Iowa this year. We need to show that our recent good play is due to improvement and not due to the schedule .

MI/MSU was a very entertaining game with MI winning in East Lansing. Holloway with a terrific game for the Wolverines. I'm thinking these are the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the BIG, with both teams possible Sweet 16 teams.

UCLA is up 22 points on Iowa in 3rd quarter. Is UCLA just head over heels that much better than everyone or is Iowa overated?

Iowa is very unathletic on the perimeter. Just don’t get killed inside, and Gophers can win. A mild, but not a major upset. Iowa may be reeling after LA trip, and recent injury.

with Michigan State going down tonight.. we jump them into 5th place..

we now have a 1/2 game lead over MSU and 1 1/2 game lead over Washington with them losing to Iowa this evening.
Going to be fun to see how we do towards the end of the season here.

4 of the 5 games left are with teams right in the midst just like us and WI on the road Sunday. Lots can swing in last few weeks.

Hopefully not getting ranked, which I think is fair due to 3 teams that beat us are just barely ranked and only team above us that we beat is recent Iowa, will fire us up for Nebraska tonight.

After frustrated with our offense before, it seems we have found some ground. Watched more and more teams and we compare to many. Seems to be the top 4-6 ranked teams, but after that is more wide open from 7ish to 30ish maybe? Lot depends on matchups, fouls, and the obvious shooting percentage(especially from the arc!).

Hope we see the confident team we saw @ Iowa tonight!

Rah!

Realistically, this is the other games thread.

23 Alabama fell to.unranked Texas A & M. Gophwrs had lost to Alabama.

Kentucky came from being a bottom feeder to #8. Lost to #4 Texas. It must be NIL for Kentucky. Maddyn Greenway is going there. Viking legend Chad Greenway said what is being paid is important. I agree with him. It is not everything, total.happiness in a combination, but from his point of view as a pro athlete it smartly is at the top. She then avoids being forced to Iowa or Minneaota tug.

17 TCU beat 12 Baylor.

Butler. Looks like former Gopher McKenna Johnson has struggled but slowly pulling up. Had a good stretch there for.severql games, got good minutes, steomg shooting, but then last few games back in struggle zone.

after watching that Washington/Oregon game... there is no WAY voters can think Washington should still be ranked after that game.. that game might have set basketball back 10 years..

Michigan State got clobbered by Michigan and suffered a couple injuries in the process. Starter Rashunda Jones and bench player Woodard suffered injuries. Woodard wheeled off the court. It remains to be seen if either will be available for next weekend's road game against the Gophers.

It's been a tough season for Michigan State with injuries, and I really feel for them.

I'm gonna guess neither Jones nor Woodard will be available this weekend. Jones seemed to be in a lot of pain after her injury, so much so that you could hear her screams on the broadcast.

Woodard took a hard elbow to the face from her own teammate, and I'd guess won't be able to play for at least a week just due to concussion protocols even if there's not a "real" injury.

I hope they both heal up quickly! That game was not fun to watch with both of those injuries.

I liked the idea of having a marquee BIG game during the day on President's Day...Iowa vs. Nebraska. Really nice crowd including lots of Hawkeyes fans who made the trip from Iowa. National exposure for the teams and the conference. Iowa doing a good job of staying very relevant in its post Caitlin Clark era...much better than our Gophers did following the Whalen-McCarville Final Four appearance.

Iowa knocks off Purdue as expected but without Hannah Steulke who did not play due to 'upper body injury'. I'm wondering if she'll be available for big game this weekend versus Michigan. And Nebraska loses to Oregon 80-76. It's looking like the Huskers could finish 6-12 in the BIG and unless they have a good BIG tourney, they might not make the NCAA tourney.

Nebraska
All season. Nebraska has been without 6' 2" forward Natalie Potts (2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year) and guard Allison Weidner, both of whom are out with knee injuries. Britt Prince also suffered a lower leg injury.

Nebraska is out of the race. I wonder what it would have been with Potts and Weidner. A lost potential good season.

Michigan - Could See Them in The Future in a High Stakes Showdown

FeatureMichigan WolverinesMinnesota Golden Gophers
Defensive IdentityThe Ever-Dominant Press: Rely on a high-intensity full-court press to "dictate tempo".Half-Court Lockdown: Prioritize "toughness" and allow only 55.9 PPG (1st in Big Ten).
Ball SecurityChaos Creators: Lead the Big Ten in forcing turnovers (25.4 per game).Ball Security Kings: Lead the nation in fewest turnovers (10.1 per game).
Offensive PaceHigh-Octane Transition: Aim to score quickly before a defense can get set.Calculated Half-Court: Focus on "decision-making" and finding the "best possible shot".
Roster BuildGuard-Heavy Speed: Often play five guards to maximize pace.Veteran Balance: Rely on veteran leadership (Mara Braun) and interior stability.

Michigan does utilize motion principles, but their execution is fundamentally different from the Minnesota Gophers' approach.

Michigan's motion half-court game is built on positionless basketball and mismatch hunting. Instead of traditional, rigid sets, they use constant movement to create open looks for elite shooters like Syla Swords and Olivia Olson.

But with a specific "Pace and Space" slant.
  • The Difference: Their motion is designed to exploit the chaos created by their full-court press.
Summary for a Coach's Scouting Report
  • To beat Michigan: You must break their press and force them into a half-court grind, where their lack of interior size becomes a vulnerability.

  • To beat Minnesota: You must speed them up and disrupt their rhythm. If they are allowed to play their "calculating" half-court game, their elite ball security and shooting are nearly impossible to overcome during their current nine-game winning streak.
