Per Pat:

The new world of college athletics, with players being paid and able to transfer schools repeatedly, brings some cynicism. This might be particularly true in basketball, where the court is occupied with a small number of players and effort is more easily analyzed.

So, excuse me if we’re getting later into the season and I suspect losing teams in major conferences might have athletes starting to focus on where they might be playing next season, rather than charging hard for, say, the next defensive rebound.

I would never directly accuse players on the Oregon Ducks of embracing that mindset, but this was much was obvious from 1,800-plus miles away in a TV den in a Minneapolis suburb on Tuesday night, Feb. 17:

This was a late-starting game in Eugene, Ore., matching a pair of teams in the bottom third of the Big 18 standings, and Niko Medved’s Gophers were considerably more interested in stealing the road victory than Dana Altman’s Ducks were in defending that garishly painted court of theirs.

Go Gophers!!

I didn't think the court in Eugene was anywhere near as bad as it used to be. Not garish, IMO. It's at least tolerable.

Ruesse burying the lead.... JCJ out for the year?

"Perhaps". Yikes.

With just 3 weeks left, it could be over for JCJ.
Well that would suck if he is done for the year. Haven't seen speculation of that in other places on here so assume it was part of the story?

Foot injuries are tricky but hopefully he is able to come back.

Reusse isn't paid to be objective....he is paid to be opinionated and piss people off....and he is very good at that.

The article makes it appear as though the source is Niko:

In a quick phone conversation with Medved earlier this week, when it was definite that ultra-valuable forward Jaylen Crocker-Johnson was going to miss another game with a foot injury and perhaps the rest of the season, he was asked about Oregon. Niko said:

“They’ve had some injuries — not quite like us, but a few — but what you know for sure is Oregon has a great coach in Dana Altman.”

I think it was sort of a backhanded compliment of Medved, who's kept his team engaged and energized, in contrast to Altman, who has not been able to. But would it kill Pat to give due credit to Niko explicitly?

He did laud Niko yesterday on the Reusse Unchained podcast.

To the best of my knowledge, Patrick is still alive so it did not kill him.

I agree, they toned down the trees. I remember to original paint job. Now the trees just look like a shadow on the court.

His column is just part of the process of turning the Startribune from unbearable to read into an all in out Rag. The printed verison isn't even toilet paper quality anymore. This goes for the online verison as well. As a friend mentioned this morning, how would you like to be on the woman's team after program changing milestone win and not seeing even a mention there was a game last night? Isn't it time for the old fossil Glen Taylor to sell this asset as well? He had better or there will not be anything left to sell.

Well here's hoping he can get back at some point this season. Another season ending injury would be ridiculous on top of all the ones this team has already suffered this season.

Pat is at least a literate talent. It was when they elevated Neal to columnist that it seemed they were daring the reader to enjoy their content.

I don't know if he's being told to have horrible takes or state inaccurate things to get people riled up but he certainly seems to get off on it. It's pathetic.

Anyone can say things to get people riled up. It's not a talent in any way. And that's why Reusse sucks. That's all he has left.

There literally is nothing left to sell. They closed their printing location and outsourced to a plant in Iowa. Printed paper is a relic of the past (sigh).

There is less than zero chance that Reusse has some kind of scoop in regards to JCJ's injury status. He's just throwing crap against the wall and hoping it sticks. Like Charley Walters.

Picturing this as the conversation....
Reusse: Will JCJ be back for Oregon?
Niko: No. Not sure when we will get him back.
Reusse writes he may be out for the rest of the season.

IMO, Reusse and Scoggins are the only ones there with any talent. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything they write.

Souhan, LaVelle, and Rand are useful for ass wiping, if you still go print version Strib.

True, its not as bad as it used to be. Still not good. Other of note, TCU last year was a terrible court, Ohio St. looks like the ice rink that for a couple years the Barn used to resemble before common sense prevailed. Do you remember when the court's borders were just painted lines, not maroon contrast, and guys were always stepping out of bounds in the corners?

No, but sounds like it could have been a possible Home Court advantage.

I laughed out loud when Reynolds drove toward the basket and the announcers said "He's going in among the trees." At Oregon that could be almost anywhere on the court. 😅
