2026 Winter Olympics

Fantastic race by Breezy Johnson

Such a technical course, not built for gliders. I don’t think the skis ran flat except for the final 300 yards or so.
Breezy made quite a few mistakes on her run, but she took a very different line at the top where she banked speed (LV tried to even go beyond Breezy's line) and carried that throughout the race. At the same gate where LV crashed, Breezy stays high and then hits the fall line pitch in the following left-hand turn, higher and straighter than everyone who went lower. Those who took the more straight approach ended up making a turn down the face. She went higher, had to make a tighter turn, but exited that pitch about 5 mph faster than anyone else, and that won her the gold. It's a classic approach of the longer route being faster than the direct route. But, it came with risk, and LV pushed that risk to the extreme. When LV's ski unloaded it threw her straight into the gate, her arm got caught inside and spun her around.

LVs racing days are probably over, and in a way, I think it's fitting that they ended by her being helicoptered off the hill versus slowly fading away. She was always full throttle in a race. When most DH racers get in trouble, they "pull the rip cord" and try to keep from blowing up. LV's attitude is "I can still make this" - she's hit the nets before still in tuck mode trying to pull out a turn. She was always going to go full throttle, and she did it once again. Softer, more responsive snow, caused her ski to load up and then unload her right into the gate. This wasn't a knee issue, it was her going full throttle to win and cutting it just too close this time.

Was nice to see Eileen Gu not win gold.
Agreed...she's not hard to look at, though. I guess she's the highest paid Olympian earning $23M and also had a nearly perfect score on her SAT's.

Yea, poor kid has nothing going for her. A little too much smugness, cuteness for my taste. Always playing up to the cameras. Like you said, though, easy on the eyes.

She could score a zero on the SAT and her earnings would be the same lol

A couple mistakes did the mixed curling team in. But Thiesse is the first US woman to medal in curling. MN proud.

Rough last end that almost felt like Sweden just let the US mess up. No shame in a silver by any means, but going to feel like a what if for them I’m sure

Being the host nation must be a boost. Italy, which won a total of 2 medals in 2022, already has 11 this Olympics -- tied with perennial-power Norway for the lead

Abbey Murphy with another highlight reel assist. Canada was missing their best player, but even still this USA team looks like the clear favorite to win gold.
They have dominated Canada the last 5 games they’ve played each other now

Italy all tied up with the heavily favored Swedes 2-2 in second. Gus in the net for Sweden. He’s made 4 saves on 6 shots

Sweden nhl players have over 16,000 games played. Italy has none

How many times does interviewer have to ask Chock and Bates how they feel. Good grief.
