Badgers Luke Fickell doesn't accept one year extension.

His current contract runs through the 2031 season so he still has 6 seasons left on that deal. I can understand him not wanting the optics of an extension and any sort of raise coming off the last few seasons (especially last year).

Only bummer is that I wold love to see Wisconsin give him a lifetime contract but doesn't look like that is going to be happening anytime soon unfortunately. Longer he stays at Wisconsin the better based on what he has been able to do with the program so far.
 


I’m confused why they would offer it. Have him through 31 … that’s a long time from now.

Extensions do tend to be regular now but this one seems unnecessary.

Didn’t read into it much but sometimes extensions do not raise guarantees.

Skunks should have fired Fickell last season. They chose penny pinching in favor of having two unstable bad recruiting classes rather than one. Players don't want to walk in on a coaching situation that seems like it could change at any time.
 




Its weird, because Fickell is a good coach, he's shown it. He just hasn't been a good coach at Wisconsin. Not sure what that's about.

I think he’s just not a good coach at this level. Going 6-6 with the resources of Ohio State at your disposal is crazy, I feel like even I could go 6-6 as an interim OSU coach if I just sat on my ass and let the assistants take the wheel all year

then make the pivot to accept only ‘smart’ kids. People forget that thug time ever existed. Barry had one rule. Show up in class. Everything else will be taken care of.

That 2011 season was a mess with players suspended and Tressell's status up in the air but yeah it is still pretty glaring to see that one bad mark surrounded by tons of seasons with very few losses.

For whatever reason guys like Fickell and Frost have found success outside of power 4 football but couldn't find anything close to it at this level. Gotta think this is a make or break year for Fickell at Wisconsin. If they don't show some serious signs of turning the corner and getting back on track both he and the AD are probably gone.

Okay. I've got nothing. My guess is that his offense, and possibly defense, requires more players that are not homegrown. Unlike the previous staff(s).
