Good win. We shot well, defended well over the final 15 minutes and generally handled a team we should handle. 2 lopsided wins in a row. This is the time of year you want to start hitting your stride.
 





This way BY FAR Mara's BEST overall game since returning..

22 points on 8-13 shooting 3-7 3p .. 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks?

if Tori and Mara are going to combined for 45 points the rest of the way I'll take it

if Penn State doesn't go BLISTERING HOT in the 2nd quarter they score like 40-45 points..

I can definitely see why McMiller was benched at Rutgers last year. Good player but you can tell she just wants to go 1:1
Will be interesting to see if she hits the portal again.

Also curious what Merkle does next year. I know this past year she entered the portal, committed to Maryland then backed out and went back to Penn State.
 





Gophers have credentials to make the AP 25. Too bad Minnesota didn't beat Maryland or Michigan which they almost did, could have.

I wasn't able to catch the game, thanks for the comments.

Agreed, they should have never taken McMiller, talented player but very 1 on 1 oriented, doesn't involve teammates in the game, needs to be on a team that has a lot of other scorers. I bet Merkle wishes she had gone to Maryland. Penn State will be better without Kieger pretty obvious her style not working with those players. I once thought Kieger was a decent coach but things have gone south at Penn State.

To be fair, she led the team in assists. But also turnovers.
 

Need to be 10-5 headed into the last three games.

Mara seeing the ball go through the hoop is huge and if she gets more comfortable down the stretch this team will be dangerous.

Hopefully we are playing our best from here on out.

You caught me. I never would have guessed that Tori's 3-point shooting percentage was so low. I guess now I'll have to flinch three times as often. A biased fan. Who knew.

Not sure comparing Glenn to McKinney and Braun works. Has Glenn ever not been in a slump when shooting 3s against good competition? Her conference game, year-by-year, 3-pt field goal percentage is poor, and is even worse in her senior/graduate year in the loaded BIG. I'm with BBJones, unless the shot clock is winding down.

Glenn 3-pt conference-game FG%
Freshman -28.6% (14 for 49)
Soph- 25.8% (17 for 66)
Jr. 27.3% (12 for 44)
Sr. 16.7% (3 for 18)

In conference play this season, 84 BIG players have 15 or more 3-pt attempts; Glenn is 81st in 3-pt FG%.

In contrast, McKinney and Braun can point to promising results against BIG competition, even though inconsistent and mixed in with poor results.

McKinney is shooting 35.5% (11 for 31) this season from 3 in conference play, a marked improvement from 23.2% from 3 (13 for 56) her freshman year in conference play

Braun shot 36.8% from 3 in conference play her freshman year and 32.8% from 3 in conference her sophomore year. Braun is struggling this year from 3 at 27.3% in conference, but is improved this year from 2 and showing signs of life from 3.

Another thing, if Mara starts hitting reliably, maybe the defense will loosen up a little on Grace. She has struggled to get open looks in the past couple games because they have been double teaming her. If we can have more dependable shooting from Mara, Tori, Amaya, etc., other teams won’t be able to double team as much.

She does play very good on-ball defense. However, she has a tendency to dribble into heavy coverage, and not plan her next move. She should be looking to where she’s going to pass, if necessary, rather than just focusing on the basket.
