Darian Mensah, Duke QB, could get poached by Miami for $7-$10 million for one year!

Does every team have a sugar daddy trying to burn all their cash?

Isn’t the fact that Miami thinks that it’s worth it to pay a QB for 7 million kind of proof that teams should’ve been paying 10+ million to get a top tier head coach for a decade?

Are they doing it because they think it is worth it or because it is what they feel like they have to do in order to maintain their status as a helmet school? Not sure that distinction really matters :)

When these mysterious boosters see they can’t buy a championship the money will subside. For the time being it will be stupid AF though
Now that it is "legal", it will only escalate. Look at the money pouring into Indiana. The guy at Texas Tech is having a blast,
AI investments, gold, crypto are creating millionaires at a pretty rapid pace. So, if you started with millions you either have or will have billions soon. What are you going to do with all that money?

The rest of us will marvel at the people who pay $50 for a soft drink at the Gophers game. It's coming...

I think that many are viewing right now as the window is open and that the window will not remain open forever, so wealthy people are dumping money in before the spigot is shut off by legislation

For sure

But more the point is, the gophers could’ve had a window 10 years ago by paying Nick saban 15 million a year

And his assistants another 15
And it would’ve probably paid for itself

If some booster of Miami wants to burn $10M for …what? Let him burn his money. What is the ROI? Elevated jock-sniffer status???
NFL >>>>>> MLB

CFB is shitty because it's quickly going to the shitty MLB model. Which is about to cause a work stoppage, by the way. GOOD! Owners have had enough of the clown show

Try to buy a one-off natty ... so you can say you got one?

They'll be illegitimate, in my book. Asterisk championships.

Pre-collective bargaining + hard cap, doesn't count 😤

At least the Gophers aren't owned by the skinflint Pohlads ...

I don't think there is a good or valid analogy in the MLB for what the Gophers and similar P4 programs are in the current college football world.

We only have any pocketbook at all because of the House settlement and being in the Big Ten. Otherwise, it would be like we didn't have any owner with any money at all. Like if the Pohlads just up and abandoned the Twins and their administrative rolls were taken over by the city of Minneapolis.

With these types of numbers getting thrown around, I’m even happier we were able to keep Drake and not surprised at all we lost Koi.

I think that estimate probably includes millions that will be paid to Duke and/or a Duke booster holding Mensah's NIL rights to settle claims they might have for breach of contract, tortious interference with contract, etc. Mensah isn't going to be getting it all.

If Tua Tagovailoa can be paid $50M to play 16-17 games and sorta fill Hard Rock Stadium and post a losing record and lose his job, then the QB from Miami U can be paid $10M to play 16-17 games and sorta fill Hard Rock Stadium and take them to the title game.

Bryce Underwood getting $4M a year sounds like a lot until you consider that Jared Goff gets over 10x that to play in front of fewer paying customers with the Lions.

Mensah or Underwood may not be anywhere near as good as Tua or Goff at football but it's not about talent it's about value related to a pool of revenue and donations.

Mensah getting $10M will be quaint in a couple years. When it comes to crazy spending by the ultra rich and massive spending on a small few, always bet the over.
