All Things 2025-2026 Minnesota Timberwolves In-Season Thread

Tre is certainly a better option than his brother. I'm not sure having a PG next to Ant that only shoots 25% from 3 and is a defensive sieve is the best fit.

Trading two (2) of our last three (3) FRPs for a career backup doesn't look very good optically for Connelly, either. I believe that rumor has legs but not something that's going to move the needle IMO.

Now if there's a deal to be had with the Bulls, Jalen Smith would be a very good, inexpensive fourth big guy behind Rudy, Randle and Naz. Maybe there's an expanded deal that could bring over both guys?
Dilly is a bust. TSJ will be a career backup. Tre would help right now and is on a solid contract. Do it if true.

Quite the group Edwards is with having scored 10,000

Edwards, at 24 years and 156 days old, was beaten to the mark by just LeBron James (23 years, 59 days) and Kevin Durant (24 years, 33 days). Edwards is one of seven players who have hit 10,000 points before age 25, with Kobe Bryant, Luka Doncic, Tracy McGrady and Carmelo Anthony also in that group.

This is an incredible accomplishment. He's raised his game big time the last two years. So fun to watch.

Howl Wolves!!

I was at the game last night. I was actually more impressed by Cleveland then the wolves. Cleveland has talent, depth and they move the ball. The wolves were super casual and basically tried to give the game away. For most of the game Ant and Julius (esp Julius) took turns dribbling the air out of the ball. I haven't seen Detroit this year but Cleveland could be noisy in the east.

The wolves must drive Finchy crazy. They think they are better than they are.

Grizzlies Entertaining Possible Ja Morant Trade: Report

The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly entertaining offers to potentially trade point guard Ja Morant, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charaniaon Friday (January 9).
"Just in: For the first time, the Memphis Grizzlies are entertaining offers to potentially move two-time All-Star Ja Morant ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on his X account. "Multiple teams are pursuing Morant in trade talks and rival executives believe the Grizzlies would prioritize draft picks and young players in return, sources said. Morant, 26, is under contract with the Grizzlies through the 2027-28 season."

The Grizzlies are reportedly considering a trade involving Morant for the first time since he was selected No. 2 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft as plans may shift toward building around several young players including 2023 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr., while also possibly continuing with Morant as the focal point, according to Charania. Morant is currently averaging 19.0 points and 7.6 assists in 28.3 minutes per game, but has been limited to just 18 games during the 2025-26 NBA season due to injuries, as well as a one-game suspension for an altercation with coach Tuomas Iisalo in November.
The former Murray State standout was limited to just 59 appearances during the past two seasons due to two suspensions for gun-related incidents and various injuries. Morant is, however, one of eight players in NBA history to average 22 points and seven rebounds per game along with LeBron James, Oscar Robertson, James Harden, Nikola Jokic, Luka Dončić, Trae Young and Cade Cunningham.

The first 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter, they were brilliant.
Let’s see what happens when they go to Cleveland for the next one.

Ja is gross. Stay far away.

Memphis up on OKC by 13 going into the 4th.
OKC missing a bunch of players.

They had two excellent runs during the game, including the one you referenced. The rest of the night they were unfocused.
Agree that tomorrow will be interesting.

Denver gets smacked at home against Atlanta. They played with no Murray, Jokic, etc
Wolves and Nuggets with the same record now, but Denver 3-0 head to head.
Noon game tomorrow in Cleveland. Really like watching Mitchell.

Wowza,

My favorite mythical GM, no off days for yous 🤞
What would we need to pony up to make a competitive offer that matches salaries, etc….

He’s only 26 and Mpls is where nightlife dreams go to die🥸

I'm not thrilled with the the idea of adding Morant but to make the salaries work under our Apron restrictions, it would probably look something like this:

MEM in: Reid, Conley & Dillingham ($39M)
MIN in: Morant ($39M)

That's far more than ATL received for Young and I would've certainly preferred Trae over Ja if I had to choose one or the other.

C Gobert / Beringer / Sikorsky
PF Randle /Miller / Ingles
SF McDaniels / TSJ
SG Edwards / DDV / Clark
PG Morant / Hyland

A single prolonged injury to any of our starters and things get ugly very quickly.

tying this team to more multiyear contracts that cap strap you would be one of the dumbest things you could do. Would put you over the cap with 5 players locked in for 3 years with the looks of a team on paper that gets you even to plus with the starters and absolutely fucked with the bench.

If anything, the new cap/apron rules have shown you that you can't assemble a roster of stars/fringe stars and that your bench depth is the vastly more key piece than trying to role out an iron 5

I was surprised it was so sparse 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for your insights 👍

If only it was 5 on 5 with no subs, that starting lineup would be formidable 💪

The Wolves decided they didn't want to show up and play defense today and the end result was predictable.

Spurs beat the Celtics 100-95
SA went Kornet/Wemby at the end
Clippers beat the Pistons on the road. Detroit played without Cunningham.
