Northwestern hires Chip Kelly as OC...

seems like a really weird hire. He's far away from the days he was doing things no one else did at Oregon and now post flameouts as head coach at UCLA and as the OC in LV with the middle year spent at OSU where he had 2 2nd round NFL RBs, 3 (likely) 1st round NFL WRs, and 2 2025 draft 1st round OL with a veteran future mid round pick at QB.

I just don't see it being a match as he'll have nowhere near the talent mismatch and plays in an environment you have to be able to pound the rock more (he did this some at UCLA, but then again running the ball in the former P12 is a very different bear than the B10 as Utah showed year after year when they'd beat the finesse teams)

Can't wait for the usual suspects to chime in about how NW will kill us with the spread offense.

Not impossible, but hard for the Gophers defense to perform any worse against Northwestern than 2024.

The ball never touched the ground in the 2nd Half.

Interesting for many reasons.
  • Where does Chip want to go from here career wise? He's 62, maybe he sees this as a chance to live in a cool city, take his foot off the pedal and scope out a potential future? Is it part of a plan to get back to a bigger school?
  • Northwestern's new stadium + NIL money make them intriguing. Maybe Chip knows something we don't about the caliber of player they are expecting to receive. I watch Northwestern several times this year and their roster is not good.

If you look at his recent resume, it doesn't seem like he will be at NW very long.

Would you take him as the Gophers OC? Not a sarcastic question. I think I would take Chip as our OC.
No. Bad fit and since we arent tOSU I doubt it would work all that well. It would get headlines and he would be gone in 2 years.
