Why root against the B1G?
Im indifferent on it. Usually will root for most of the B1G against other P4 teams, minus Iowa and Wisconsin. I’m not really rooting for Indiana mostly out of jealousy and their coach seems like kind of an asshole. Usually will root for any g5 or big P4 dog vs a B1G team. Against the SEC I’m almost tempted to root for Iowa and Wisconsin.

Rivals. I hope they lose.
There are definitely two trains of thought on it.
I’ve never thought Nebraska, Indiana, and Iowa winning non conference games was good for the gophers
Not now.
Not 10 years ago.

But I don’t really cheer. I just watch.

Yep. The amount of SEC shit talk is always too high. B10 all the way.
I want the SEC teams to lose more than I want the Big Ten teams to win. As it stands right now with the final 8 I wouldn't mind seeing Texas Tech come out on top.

Would be cool if SEC doesn't have a team in the Championship in back to back years.

The already haven’t had a team in the championship back to back years

Good point. Was referring to just the 12 team playoff years but would be fun to see the SEC without a team in the championship game 3 years in a row.

Recruiting rankings out HS matter, but so does development. On the indiana team playing Bama today, QB Fernando Mendoza was a low 3* ranked an 82 out of HS (#134 QB in his class); RB Roman Hemby was a low 3* ranked an 83 (#108 RB in his class); RB Karlon Black was 2* ranked a 79 (#201 RB in his class). Cignetti and staff can see talent—on the field talent. Personal development plus development of a disciplined, coordinated, knowledgeable team play ethos is big.

Mendoza wasn't a rough gem that Cignetti found. He was one of the top transfer QBs after 2 good seasons at Cal. If anyone should get credit for finding him, it's Cal.

Hemby also similar. Really nice 4 year career at Maryland.

Cignetti should get credit for winning a bidding war for those 2 in the transfer portal.

Okay. On that point of development, Taylor and Perich were highly recruited and have continued upon their respective growth vectors and it would be a shame to lose out on their forthcoming production. That is, they were deemed to have more talent and, in my opinion, have developed that talent/potential. Some could argue that Perich took a small step back; however, I still think his productivity has been strong - TFLs, total tackles, and offensive production being chief among them. So, congratulations to UMN and the staff on that. Can we really afford not to keep (pay) them now?

I perceive the conferences as being sort of like "brand portfolios." Through this lens, the NIL era has shed light on just how "resource deprived" Minnesota really is. That is, the value of our brand does not appear to be on par with Power 5 schools. In fact, we may be on a similar level as FCS programs - lower than a number of Group of 5 schools. The aforementioned "brand lens" helps explain IU's relative success in football now along with Alabama's recent success in basketball. And, if you are not paying attention, don't be surprised if Volleyball, Wrestling, and Hockey are usurped. Yes, I believe that PSU hockey has more NIL $ than Minnesota. Other institutions have fans, alumni, and boosters who prioritize, believe, and appreciate the importance of college sports. I truly cannot say about my own alma mater.

You don't think what he's done as a HC had an affect?

I had no idea that Indiana's very good starting center Coogan was a starter on last year's CFP Notre Dame team. Notre Dame to Indiana? Wow. Times have changed.

RTB and FAMILY I’m sure it gets old. PJ has been through 50 instances of turnover give or take in the time that he’s been here as he says his schtick is not for everybody. Money is not the issue. You’re either too ignorant or too stubborn to figure that out.
Money is and has always been an issue. We never have had a top paid group of assistants coaches or even one assistant making top money or even a HC making top money. I don’t know why you keep saying this. It’s not a Fleck thing, it’s a gopher football thing and has been that way long before Fleck was here.

Has the full story of what Indiana has done the last two years been fully told? The money, the transfers, the role of the admin, etc? Hard to fathom their incredible success. Is it just Mendoza? Im so jealous!!

How about this: If PJ came to Coyle with an OC and DC change to a couple of proven hotshots but it would take let’s say $1.75 million each vs the $750K he’s paying our two erstwhile analysts do you think Coyle would say can’t afford that and say can’t do it? No chance — he’d green light it in a minute.

Or he'd say he had to check with his bosses and then say they can't do it

I doubt it. You don’t think he asked for more to pay KC, Rossi, or Heatherman?

Cignetti didn't have $$ at James Madison or last year at Indiana.
