Defensive Line Coach let go

Yeah I’m fine with the move. I wasn’t calling for his head or anything, but a lot takes place behind the scenes that leads to these decisions, not just what we see on the field.
I think there are more to the defensive issues than the DL coach but this is a start.

But there were also a significant number of games where the opposing RB wasn’t getting touched until 3-4 yards downfield. The DL was getting blown off the ball frequently on running plays.

Additionally, the pressure wasn’t consistent as they had something like 16 of those sacks in two games.
This d-line was hot garbage.

Fix that unit, get the secondary to cover somebody and they probably have a good defense again.

The second group probably comes down to coaching too. Many players in the secondary looked confused most of the year.

The secondary coaches have pretty good track records though.

This dismissal just completes the wet dream for the MN media. They got to negatively cover a bad unit all season and now get to provide negative coverage when the leader of that unit is dismissed.
Depends if someone is having a combo platter of gored ox, as well. It is a distinction without a difference except Cignetti is great and the Bears are The top of the NFC.

It seems like the D Line was caught between jumping gaps for potential TFOLs or being gap disciplined and keeping the opposing O Line off the linebackers...and not really accomplishing either in some games. Could it have been that? Or something else that made him unpalatable?

We were counting on some transfers to play key roles and they were either busts or never saw the field due to injuries. Bad depth, especially at DT, can wreck a group over the course of a season. Doesn't matter how talented you are at DE with Smith, Howard, Menz.

Whatever the case was, our front 7 was very disappointing. considering the amount of experience we had at DL and LB (especially our two super senior LB's)

Yep, worst DB play I've seen in years under Fleck. We were spoiled with Durr, Winfield, Williamson, St. Juste, Walley, Howden, Nubin. PJ did warn before the season that our youth would show at DB and its did.

I also think Collins is a terrible play caller and put them in awful positions.

The reality is that until the admin opens their wallet, we won't be making a big offseason DC signing any time soon. Unfortunately, looks Collins is back next year. He'll have 3-year starters at safety with Brown and Perić, more experience and talent at CB, and arguably our most athletic front 7 we've ever had. If he can't get it done, welp

Lastly, weird timing considering we have two 2026 Edge rushers (Aytch and Charles) with very impressive offer lists. PJ better have something up his sleeve

A d-line that doesn't get pressure tends to make dbacks look worse...just saying.
