I chose 20, as Ben’s high water mark was 19 in 23-24 season and not beating it would cause this place to implode and diminish some/much of the goodwill fostered by Niko’s hiring.

This poll is open for a week.

Ben had 15 wins last year with 7 big ten wins. I don't see this team winning 7 big ten wins. I see maybe 3-4. I did not see first two games but their last two games make me think they will be overmatched in almost every big ten game.

There will be the usual bitching throughout the season when the team fails but I don't think this board will be all that negative toward the coach in Year 1 regardless of how the season turns out.
You started seeing more demands to fire Ben Johnson in season 2 but he had the additional handicap of being a coach who no one thought should have been hired anyway. Niko comes with a reasonably strong resume so there will be much more doubt about the program's ability to hire someone better.

I'd say that's a reasonable doubt. Remember that Ben won only 4 conference games in his first year and, of course, even fewer in his second.

You have more faith in humanity and Gopher fans than I do🤷‍♂️

Before the win over Michigan last year, did you think the Gophers would even win 5 B1G games?

A buddy of mine texted me after the game last night and said he’d put the over/under for Gopher Big Ten wins at 2.5. I immediately said I’d take the over for $25. Haven’t heard back from him yet.

Need to start showing more positive signs starting with San Francisco. Important stretch ahead.

In Niko I trust.

I don't think you know this board as well as you think you know this board

My prediction is we win exactly 20. We will stack a few Ws later in the season and during the Big 10 tourney (a rare change of pace). It won't be enough to get us into the tourney, but it will have us feeling very optimistic for next year.

If they go 0-4 in the next four then 14 will be the ceiling. It will be pretty obvious where they stand in the next two weeks.

Revenue sharing has started. I would think the trajectory will be upward the following year. They should have millions more to spend.

Why?

Revenue Sharing, not sure how Minnesota is dividing up the amount but basketball has to be getting millions to pay players.
I think the skepticism stems from every school being able to do that, and there being a cap. Probably still on the low end of payroll compared to schools with outside big bucks donors, and probably always will be (under the current system).

I'd get in on that action 🤣

Not a lot of Chemistry right now but they'll get better I'd imagine.

If I remember correctly football was getting $11-12 million, men's bball 5-6 million, mens hockey, women's bball and volleyball a million each

I asked why they'd have millions more to spend next year.
They're spending revenue sharing money THIS year. And according to some reports men's m
Basketball is getting more than the 15% (of $20.5m) that most schools are planning for men' bkb.

Why will it be millions more (and the "trajectory upward") next year?

Based on what I have seen I would guess that 20 wins is out of the question. Maybe they will improve during the season but who knows. You can't teach talent, and they seem to be lacking in that department. I would be pleasantly surprised with anything over 17 wins as of now.

I look at it this way.

Assuming the best-possible remaining non-conference scenario (10-1). ... If that happens, the Gophs have to win 10 Big Ten games. Given what we've seen so far, not seeing that as likely, especially considering how other conference teams have performed/looked.
