Boys may have been doing shots before the game.We looked so good last week in the first staff against Missouri since then it’s been downhill.
Thoughts?
Ball don't lie.
That took me a minute to get it.
Yeah, I was thinking similar thoughts. Mentally, they weren’t expecting any resistance from one of the worst teams in D1. Lesson hopefully learned, and without having to take the L. A lot of good teams have games like this.It was clear to me, even in the two blowout wins, that outside shooting was going to be a problem. That said, there are guys on this team who have shot it better in the past and need to step up. I can't cite what percentage Asuma shot last year, but I expected more from him. Was Durkin that overrated coming in? Didn't some say he was supposed to be our best transfer recruit and sure fire starter? He's done next to nothing. And I don't think anyone expected Crocker-Johnson to go 0 for his first 20 from long range.
Struggling to explain some of this stuff rationally, I do keep going back to what Yogi supposedly said once: 90 percent of the game is half mental. I am counting on this team to get its mind right and perform and be ready to compete in the Big Ten. Don't anybody doubt that Medved can coach. This isn't his first rodeo with a forming and early-struggling team.
In fact, struggling early and going through adversity together might help the cause. It was good that they pulled out the first close game they've been in. There have been some good signs in all this, and that was one of them.
It's good to keep perspective on what this is and where this is. This was the fourth game by a team with only two returning players and a new coaching staff, save for one assistant. I did not expect them to be as good as they were in their first two and a half games, and now they've hit some rough seas. This is sports.
I have been thinking the same thing, especially with Iowa's hire, who I reluctantly expect great things from. You're going nose to nose with the best, each and every night. It's a murderers row. Tubby (among others) found that out, coaching against the likes of Bo Ryan. I think it was humbling for him.Yeah, I was thinking similar thoughts. Mentally, they weren’t expecting any resistance from one of the worst teams in D1. Lesson hopefully learned, and without having to take the L. A lot of good teams have games like this.
As to whether Medved can coach at this level, we’ll see. The level of coaching in the B10 seems higher than it’s ever been. If you go down the list, it’s pretty difficult to put Medved in the top half, at least at this point. The ceiling is unknown due to a lack of data.
It was very hard to watch. We don’t have guys that can finish around the rim, and we don’t have shooters when teams put a zone on us. Hard to watch.
Green Bay is not good, but I will say this- they absolutely played their fannies off. They worked HARD. And as we, through our uninspired play and shooting, kept them in their game, you could just see Green Bay gaining confidence to the point where they started hitting threes.Last night's game was a classic case of young kids thinking they were so much better than their opponent that they thought they could just show up and destroy their opponent. Watching the game it looked like kids were sleep walking and being terribly lazy (especially mentally lazy). They never really came out of their haze, but Green Bay was bad enough so that the kids still won.
