6-3 including 4-2 in B1G! I got a kick out of Ryan Burns' "Go find joy" rant!

If it wasn’t for Indiana, I might be happy with this participation award that so many are happy about.

Indiana is showing that a football non-blue blood can climb at least near to the top of the mountain.

We should want the Gophers to have the view from the top.
There isn't a Gopher fan out there that doesn't want to have that view from the top.....but expecting it to happen is another story because Indiana is 1000% the exception and not the rule when it comes to making a coaching change and having it instantly lead to the kind of success they have had.

They caught lightning in a bottle.....most teams miss and get struck by the lightning instead when they go out and try to catch it.

Can we see a few more teams do what Indiana is doing or see Indiana sustain this before we start thinking that is a realistic goal and anything less should be criticized?

And I assume you are donating your considerable wealth to NIL to help?

Yeah, that is the problem when a team has instant success. Fans and administrations start to expect it and it is far easier said then done.

In the case of Cignetti I am really curious to see how long he sticks it out at Indiana, won't be shocked one bit if he jumps to a traditional blue blood in the next year or two.

No...in 2 years when he falls back to the pack they have to pretend they always knew it was going to happen! Just like Deion! (and well every coach that some team hires that posters have a hard on for)

Been that way forever. Look at the names that people wanted in every coaching search...the stone cold locks according to people around here. How many of them flamed out? The vast majority of them...

He basically said it was his last job when he signed the extension a couple weeks ago. Not saying it won't happen, but he is king there and there is no reason to leave. However his buyout is $12-15M if he leaves.

This is why I'm happy with 10+ years of PJ. He's not going to flame out anytime soon IMO.

I enjoyed that rant.

It's a contrast that some fans just can't seem to find:

Knowing and talking about how the team isn't the best and recognizing that is ok.

Enjoying a win is ok too.

There is a real weirdness to fans and how they bring some seriously unhealthily emotion to games.
Lots of fans are really poor sports, social media doesn't help, but man ...

I agree that this is it for him. Fully guaranteed. Also at 64, not thinking he'll be looking to move.

A win is a win is a win.

Bud Grant: "Statistics are for losers."

This tends to be my view. But the corollary to not apologizing for how we won against weak opponents is that I am also not willing to get too excited about a strong showing in a loss to a good opponent. If a win is a win, then a loss is a loss.

Agreed on wins.

Was it 2021 where Nebraska was the best 3 win team ever? At some point ... naw man they're just a 3 win team.

I had fun watching the Michigan State game....it was frustrating as he!! at times but we won so all in all a good day.

I'm sure the coaches would love to win every game by 50 and give the fans a show but in the end their job is to win the game by any means necessary....style points don't matter.
The whole third quarter and most of the fourth was garbage, but if a W is all that matters to ya then kudos.

If the gophers lost 21-10 had been competitive vs Iowa there would be fewer people upset at the Michigan state win

Are people upset about it? I think it’s more “well, they escaped with one they probably shouldn’t have and oh yeah, Iowa still kicked their butts” so maybe the enthusiasm level has gone down a notch. Only the biggest homers fail to
accept what’s happened and let people have their feelings about this iteration of the team. If people stop caring completely then that’s a problem.

Obviously there are things I want to see the team get better at but I refuse to be bummed out by a win just because it wasn't as convincing as I wanted it to be.

We were a 3 point favorite going into the game....it wasn't like we were favored by 30 and barely got the win.

It’s not the same but similar if you go to a movie and you sit there for two hours plus and a good chunk of it sucks from a quality perspective but it has a great ending you leave somewhat satisfied but also thinking wow a big chunk of that was awful. Again – – people see the world through their own lens I get that but the product isn’t just wins and losses – – at least to me.

See: Wisconsin
And countless other examples......the list of hugely successful coaching changes is going to be very short, the list of failed or moderately successful changes is going to be much much much longer.

I’m too lazy to look but were Deion’s teams ever good? As I recall it he gained a lot of attention for his transfer portal activity and landing some highly rated players. I don’t hear much about him anymore but I believe his star is fading fast.

I don't think we are all that far off in how we feel about things. I am more directing all this at the people who act like we should apologize for or feel bad about the win. To me that is ridiculous because in the end the goal is to get the W, style points are nice but they aren't a requirement.

MN and Michigan have 3 common opponents

Both are 3-0 in those games over MSU, Nebraska and Purdue.

MN is + 28 in those games.
MI is + 19 in those games.

Just saying.
But I’d bet we wouldn’t beat Michigan unfortunately. Feels like we never beat the helmet schools even in their down years…. Minus Nebraska if you count em. I guess we always play PSU competitive but Minnesota kinda always has with every coach.

Non Conference (overall records)
Buffalo 5-4
NW State 1-8

Total 6-12

Big Ten (Big Ten records)
Rutgers 1-5
Nebraska 3-3
Purdue 0-6
MI State 0-6

Total 4-20

I mean...if you can't get excited about wins against opponents like this...then clearly you are not a fan!! We are clearly building a program to be respected!! I mean heck...we came within two touchdowns of that 5-4 powerhouse of the west...Cal!

Revel in your love for mediocrity!

That’s true
If you eliminate a lot of the wins of our opponents they’ve won fewer games?

But did you know that if you eliminate the gophers opponents’ losses the record of our opponents the records are actually:
Rutgers 4-0
Nebraska 6-0
Purdue 2-0
Michigan State 3-0

That’s 15-0!

I'm waiting breathlessly for the announcement of your massive NIL donation that will get us to the top.

It is pointless to play the what if game.....every team can do it.

Penn State is 0-5 in the Big Ten.....4 of their loses are by a combined 13 points. Including a 1 point loss to Iowa. Iowa is a handful of points from being undefeated but also barely beat PSU......

Win by 20 or win by 1.....counts the same in the standings.
All this from the guy who wouldn't call out the mounting losses of cbj.....
