All about Max Brosmer Making the Cut

Coach: "So you're down 14 to 3 and you have a long ways to go ... but it's only early in the 2nd quarter. You don't see anyone op---"

Wentz: "I chuck it like some rookie, and throw it really off target, just like i'm going to do all game!"

Coach: "That's our guy!"

Naw I don't think that's what they're looking for / seeing in practice ..
I know I'll regret this.

Yes, Wentz had about 10 throws that ranged from bad to awful, in terms of accuracy and/or being a poor decision. Very frustrating.

He also had 26 completions for 313 yards. If JJ just holds onto the ball and falls to the ground, that throw is a TD. Refs stole another TD away with an absolutely absurd "holding" call on Brandel. Refs stole another TD away with a silly decision to overturn a called TD that would have stayed that way in many other games with other crews.

It almost doesn't matter how good he is ... because he doesn't play. Not quite there, but getting there fast.

And I've had reservations about how much JJ has ever had to DO at Michigan. Never felt like he really was the reason they won there ...
Maye didn't play last year, and is doing well this year.

It's not a wrong point by any means, it depends on the player and the situation (Captain Obvious, just saying)

I was more sure about seeing Maye play in college as a passer than JJ. Duno who would be good in the NFL, that's nigh impossible to know, but at least you saw Maye having games put on his shoulders. JJ just didn't happen much.

Granted Michigan did not HAVE to do that, and chose not to. Very reasonable choice by Michigan. But not seeing it happen leaves so much unknown.

Apologies, I was wrong about Maye. Don't know why I thought he sat out

Wentz has over $100 million in the bank and thinks God decides who wins games. We all care more about Vikings results than he does—terrible pick up and I’d bet a week’s salary that the kid Brosmer would take care of the ball better. McCarthy was running for his life behind one of the worst offensive lines the Vikings have ever run out there in the game that he got hurt and KOC just can’t help himself from continuing to throw the ball. I think he will be fine.

Sports trio blasted Wentz on his attitude during the channel 5 news this evening. Between sulking in the locker room after a Superbowl win, this situation today, and perhaps other events, I have no time for Wentz. He is going to be a cancer in the locker room if he hasn't already done it yet.

I always kinda ignore the attitude stuff.

I remember when Eli Manning was ridiculed for looking like “awe shucks” and so on. Then he won a Super Bowl and you didn’t hear it anymore. I don’t think we really know what they’re thinking.

I do see crappy play tho…

Wentz out for the season

JJ is back but OK we’ll see

Brosmer getting closer to some PT

Yep....sure they will give JJ every opportunity to succeed but Max will be one snap away from getting legit crack at the starting job should JJ get hurt again.

Sure they might explore options for a veteran QB they can bring in but there isn't going to be much out there of any quality and with how the season is going I don't know that I would try to make a trade of any kind.

All that said they aren't out of the playoff picture yet officially so tough to say what the team will elect to do.

I smell KOC and KAM sending a draft pick for some putz that isn't any good who then gets beat out in training camp next year by an UDFA.

Flacco-time!

Case Keenum is the Bears' 3rd-stringer. Let's bring back the magic!

Russell Wilson has been benched in NYC. If KOC agrees to give him his own private office, he'll be here!

JJ needs to show he is the future. Max gets a step closer...

From Rotoworld (NBC) today:

ESPN’s Kevin Seifert believes if Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy (ankle) can’t stay healthy, QB Max Brosmer “will merit the next look” as the team’s starter.

McCarthy, almost two months after sustaining an ankle injury, is reportedly set to start in Week 9 against the Lions. This comes after the team essentially sacrificed Carson Wentz to the Chargers in Week 8 as the veteran dealt with a severe arm injury and appeared to be in agony from start to finish. “A person with knowledge of the Vikings’ thinking half-joked that O’Connell left Wentz in last Thursday’s game because Brosmer — who had a strong training camp and preseason — might prove a better short-term option than McCarthy.” If McCarthy’s struggles continue in the coming weeks, the Vikings could see what they have in Brosmer, a rookie who last year at the University of Minnesota threw for 2,828 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Brosmer should be rostered in deeper superflex formats in case McCarthy once again flames out as the Vikings’ starter.

At some point you're just out of warm bodies and how many old vets can you sign the week of?

That and if you believe JJ is the future (even if this year ends up being mostly wasted) you aren't going to go out and make a trade for a QB who is likely going to cost a lot of money to get or retain.

Reality is that are right on that edge of being out of playoff contention but the NFC looks so mediocre they still have a shot.

Sure they will give JJ every opportunity for the remainder of this year to try and prove he is the guy. But if he gets dinged (and that seems likely given his injury history) it makes sense to just go with Brosmer for the game he gets hurt in and then decide what to do after that.

Vikes have to add a QB to carry three, so it will be interesting to see who they get. Do they go back and re-sign Desmond Ridder or go the trade route?

I tried finding good lists of NFL QBs available…. the lists I found were not pretty.

I almost feel bad for McCarthy going against a very good Lions D Line in Detroit with a Vikings O Line held together by chicken wire and tape.

IMO Brosmer wouldn’t look any worse than those two. Maybe better, besides JJ’s mobility or former mobility. Put him in, coach.
