All Things 2025 Minnesota Vikings In-Season Thread

Who they played matters. They should have been 3-0. Wentz did nothing to win the Cincy game, and he lost the Steelers game.

In all fairness, protecting the football is part of winning football. JJM, in just 2 games, threw 3 INTs and fumbled 3 times; In three games, Wentz has thrown 2 INTs and fumbled once.

I don't know what's going to happen over the next handful of games and honestly, I don't know what SHOULD happen either. JJ McCarthy is still just 22 yrs old, so if the staff wanted to roll with Wentz for a few more games, it's not like it's going to completely stunt McCarthy's development.

Whatever they do, they have infinitely more information at hand than we do so I'm good with whatever they decide. KOC and the staff have earned the benefit of the doubt at this point

Can we see what JJ has first before we crown him the franchise QB. We don’t know. With that said I hope he is the man but again we don’t know yet
That's why you play him.

We know what Wentz is.

Same. And we have 2026 and 2027 to find out.
Don't the Vikings have to decide before 2027 if they want to exercise the 5th Year option (2028) on JJM?

No need to take a S on the 2025 season, where we are still very much in NFC title contention with a healthy team.

I find it astonishing that you equate plugging in JJM with just totally bailing on 2025. He could very well be the best option with a healthy team.

He's had zero snaps with Darrisaw protecting his blind side or Addison as a weapon. Zilch.

People who have eyes watched the disaster that was 7 out of the first 8 quarters of the season.

This year's team always needed a veteran QB.

My eyes didn't see Darrisaw nor Addison on the playing field during those 8 quarters.

Well I don't think McCarthy had four backups playing on the OL.

Wentz so far has played superior to what we saw out of McCarthy. Today proved it.

We wouldn't be having this discussion if they had stuck with Howell, or if they had happened to not find someone like Wentz.

They got lucky as hell -- again, like with Darnold.

Ride it.

Silly and absurd not to. When we don't even know if Flores will be back with us next year.

2025, ride or die

What you have just described is completely different than "taking a dump" on the season if they go with JJM.

We don't even know if Wentz will be healthy for the Eagles game, with the injury he sustained today.

Remaining 1972 Dolphins members celebrate "only unbeaten team ever" streak with a prune juice toast.

It is, but JJM also didn't have Darrisaw and was doing 5 step drop backs nearly every time. Stefanski just made Dillon Gabriel look competent at QB, KOC should be able to do the same with JJM.

The Vikings have a chance to do more this season with JJM at QB over Wentz.

I'm certainly inclined to agree with you. I'm just saying that the staff knows and sees more than we do, and if they do something different, I would get it. Their unmitigated love for McCarthy is obvious and their wagon is probably hitched firmly to JJM so they'll give him every chance to succeed. But if they roll with Wentz for one or more games, they would have their reasons.

Or, they could trade Wentz tomorrow and I would get that too.

I find the conjecture that B Flo will be gone, hilarious. He not only sued his former employer the Dolphins, but the NFL as well.

The skill sets gif a coordinator and HC are very different. Every year there are new hot shot coordinators in the NFL prospective HC coaching pool, ergo, there are many other qualified, less risky candidates than him available.

I think he needs to put in several more years before the stank is off him.

There would seem to be no good reason for him to make a lateral move to go to another team as a DC. He has carte blanche with KOC and apparently has input with personnel decisions as well.

GIDP avoidance

Buxton grounded into zero double plays in 542 plate appearances.

He’s the first right-handed hitter to qualify for the MLB batting title without grounding into a double play during a full season since Hall of Famer Craig Biggio in 1997. Last before Biggio was Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson in 1994.

This discussion always amuses me, this notion of Flores getting "blacklisted" or he's getting hosed somehow.

The job of HC and that of OC/DC is completely different. There have been many that were great at one and not so great at another; Spagnuolo, Josh McDaniels, Martindale, Vance Joseph, Saleh, et al. Sometimes it just doesn't work out as the head honcho

I don't see the disrespect in being an elite DC, like Flores, and making $3-$5M per year in the NFL. Flores' issues go way past suing the NFL. He was a terrible, insufferable manager in Miami, everyone hated working with/for him and walked around the building on egg shells when he was there.

I would imagine that after the last several years, he could very well be seeing that being an elite #2 to KOC, working for a very good franchise/owner, is probably a pretty damn good way to go. If I were the Vikings and the Wilfs, I would just overpay Flores and make him happy. I'm a big believer in overpaying for talent.

Flores contract ends this year. He could go to another franchise as a Combo DC/Asst HC for more dough which is as good as reason as any to leave Minnesota.

I doubt the Wilfs will be outbid for his services - they don’t seem to have a problem spending thei Jersey green.

Probably not, but if in combo with Flores potentially seeing a better chance to win, a more direct path to being a HC, and/or more talent on Defense, there's nothing stopping him.

And the world could end tomorrow 🤷‍♂️.

I find basing decisions on what possibly could happen, anathema to rational reasoning.
