I don't think the turf has been replaced since the Vikings moved out for the 2016 season. Correct me if I'm wrong. That's pushing 10 years. Assuming it's time for a replacement, any changes in technology in the past decade versus what the Gophs have now?

Other aesthetic changes I'd love to see

Block MINNESOTA end zone letters (Outback bowl had these and it was beautiful. Nice to be U of M specific)

Numbers of the field match the jersey font (current seem pretty default. The current font has gone thru multiple coaching regimes and has been consistent. I think its also part of the scoreboards)

Flip the end zones to gold with maroon letters. We are the Golden Gophers!

I’ve been on it, seems like it is in pretty good shape.

How much use does it get outside 7 football games per year? There are some practices. Band marches on it some. They cover it up with plywood for concerts?

🤷‍♂️

USBS has been replaced already since it opened though

I would rather have it say Gold Country in the end zones. I still with they would do something with the 3rd deck.

Wait, no comment yet on the Coyles(coils)??

Boom!
That is the better question. With our gunslinger QB we need the coils to keep the turf in great shape to win those November games! Who wants to donate the antifreeze?!

No truth to the rumors that chunks are missing after getting cut up and ‘rolled’ during Farm Aid 40 ?!?! 😉 “Think I’ll roll another number for the road”. N. Young

When was the last time they even used the term Gold Country?

Did anyone ever walk on or play on the old Metrodome turf? It felt like a thin layer of carpet over concrete. My high school band did a half time show the Bud Grant returned to coach the team . It was the biggest moment of my life up until then.

I played on it a few times in the late 90s. Hard as a rock and gave you awful turf burns. Can’t believe professional football was played on that junk.

The old junk was like the scrubbing side of a Brillo pad.
