While not exactly Gophers volleyball, Izzy Starck, the setter that led Penn State to the title is stepping away from volleyball to focus on her mental well-being. I wish her the best!

Great player. I hope she gets the support she needs and can come back next year.

Yes, I do, too. You never want to see something that should be fun wearing on a person. Get well Izzy!

This player is one of the best if not the best setter in the Div 1 NCAA. Penn State's program has a complete turn around this season. This girl needed some really BIG SHOULDERS to carry the weight of this highly ranked/succesful (for years) program. I don't blame her one bit for deciding to miss this season and taking care of herself.

Interesting to see the career trajectories of the last two frosh setters who led their respective teams to a NC.

I do not like how Penn State is running their program. It's a shame that this has happened to one of their actual recruits. I wish her the best.

What's going on there?

Nothing nefarious no doubt. I just don't like these programs built by grabbing players developed in other places.

Just to make my point. THIS year's roster (let alone last year):

Jordan Hopp (Iowa State)
Addie Lyon (St Louis)
Emmi Sellman (Ohio State)
Caroline Jurevicius (Nebraska)
Kennedy Martin (Florida)
Maggie Mendelsohn (Nebraska)

That's 314 of their 354 kills. 772 of their 856 attacks. Good thing they have Lyon to set.

Jess Mruzik who carried them to their National Championship last year was also a transfer. That said, I'd have gladly found a spot for Kennedy Martin on the Gophers.

And Trammel. It's not a new strategy for them.
