Cal names True Freshman as Starting QB.

It seems like if there is ever a left handed QB anymore, he's of Polynesian descent. I know there are drastic differences in left handedness throughout the world - Mexico and Korea are like 2% and the US and most of Western Europe is like 12%.

Enrolled early at Oregon, wasn't given starting QB spot, so transferred to Cal?

Wild guess what happened
If you're Wilcox, I'm not sure how long your leash is. Maybe Brown isn't very good, but I am not sure his best move isn't to just play the best player.

So much to unpack here. Spent a weekend at Oregon, left for Cal, did all of winter workouts/spring/fall ball, beat out Brown/Co, gets the starting job

Hasn’t even stood on the sidelines as a player yet and he’ll have to run an offense that lost its leader at basically every position. It’s almost the inverse of the CU/Indiana model.

He’ll get two cupcake games to warm up before us but I can’t imagine the offense will be humming by then. Feels more like a business decision from HC than a football one.

According to someone familiar with Oregon, they had a offer letter out to the kid but he was their QB 2 after Akili Smith Jr. in that class.

They were surprised he signed with them since they weren't recruiting him that hard.

Regarding Wilcox. I like that guy as a coach, but if I am him, I'm back-channeling for a new job after this season considering the power struggles at play.

From Reddit so take it with a grain of salt. Mendoza is at Indiana now.

The story running around Cal is that Fernando Mendoza was for some reason very insecure about his hold on the starting QB at Cal. Not sure why. Everybody here loved him. Apparently he was feeling threatened by Sagapolutele, so Mendoza called him and let him know Cal was HIS team and that he'd better watch his back if he came to Cal. JKS took that as a threat and decided Oregon was looking better. Besides, some of his advisors and family felt that Oregon was a better place for him. So, JKS flipped to Oregon. By the time he got to Eugene, Mendoza had left for Indiana and Cal was scrambling to find QBs. JKS wasn't liking Oregon as well as he liked Cal, so he flipped back to Cal, though technically it was a transfer since he had been enrolled briefly at Oregon.

The new BYU QB is also a true freshman transfer (formerly of the Stanford Spring Team)

The guy’s path to, away from and back to Cal is odd. I remember a true freshman who started for the Gophers: Ricky Foggie; it can be done. If this guy actually beat out Devin Brown, our defense might have its hands full. Hopefully, Cal’s defense is as bad as expected, …

Cal was decent last year but with all I am reading regarding transfers out, starting over, and now a true freshman QB... I am going to be disappointed with any result other than riding to Berkely and completing a 2+ score margin of victory.

I like the way the schedule lays out for the Gophers this year and their own freshman QB. He should have the opportunity to ease into the season a bit plus have an experience on the road against a power conference opponent before trying his hand at starting B1G football.

I like the schedule too, but I am worried about Buffalo. That could be a good team, and a loss would put a damper on the season like nothing else could. We will need a good game from Drake. He needs to be ready to play... and play well. But I agree with your stance on all this. Could be an ideal situation for him.
