All Things Class of 2026 Minnesota Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread

It might be academic, something that is easy to forget about these days since a college education isn’t that important to the best players anymore. Show me the money!

We will see if Medved’s track record of success can break through with a player like Costello, who is being recruited by some top programs.

With a coach that had no charisma and no record whatsoever to pitch that type of player.
This will be an interesting era. The big boys might not always win on guys outside the top 25 or so. Players are going to choose a team that they think can maximize playing time and ability to make their stock rise for their next NIL deal. A kid like this might wonder- will North Carolina (or whoever) just recruit an experienced player over the top of me? We can get these guys now and we have decent money to get recruit of this level with. I don't want us to be getting 7-8 new portal guys a year. Develop a team and add portal pieces as needed.

You may be right, but I have never spent much time around BJ to know about his demeanor. However, I am very optimistic that Niko will upgrade recruiting and have successful teams this year and after.

It probably won't apply to the top-tier guys, but I can see guys a bit down the list wanting to go to a program where they will see significant playing time as a freshman in hopes of either garnering a big-time NIL deal or impressing pro scouts. To one of your main points, if you can get them on campus and they impress, they can probably land a signiciant NIL deal here.

I'm not a CBJ apologist by any measure, but it's hard to blame him for not landing Chet. Those guys have been leaving the state for years. Chet also committed to Gonzaga like a month after CBJ became coach.
