All Things 2025 Minnesota Timberwolves Off-Season Thread

I'm still holding out hope that Cole Anthony gets bought out by MEM. He plays zero defense but can shoot a little, get to the rim and would give us another viable option at PG.

I just can't shake my concerns that the ultimate success of next year's team hinges on the play and development of Dillingham.
He'd be a nice fit on the team. The guy I really like is Banton. He is like a poor man's Shaun Livingston and if Dilly develops, he could definitely play off the ball.

I actually think it makes things kind of interesting and will result in fewer super teams. The second apron makes it really difficult to build super teams and the large max contracts I think properly pay the very best players while also making it more difficult to build around them.

I think it will also make teams have to draft well. You're going to need to add cheap players who can contribute.
Certainly the hope.

Trying to stop the Lebron to Miami, KD to GS, unless they give up the check. Certainly incentivized.

What may end up helping is how ridiculously hard those contracts are to get rid of while in the 2nd apron. Once you’re in you’re stuck.

My complaint is mostly the the top guy relative salary to everyone creating perverse incentives.

The one guy running down the court in a bubble vs everyone laying tough basketball, and the awkward fouls in creates is just such a bummer. I’d like to pray those days away and fear they’ll only get worse.

I am a wolves addict. Time for an intervention followed by a twelve step program. I watched over half of the wolves' summer league game yesterday and I'm not proud of it. My little kernels of air tight conclusions based on about half of the first summer league game:

1. Berenger looks like he can contribute a few minutes a game this year. He's skinny and raw but he sure can protect the rim and--shockingly--catch a pass. He even made a six foot shot.

2. I only saw Zikarsky play for a couple of minutes. He's slower than I thought.

3. If Dilly plays much this year he's going to give Finch a coronary. His game has sizzle but there's no steak. If this team has aspirations of the WCF or the championship series, I can't see him playing 20-30 minutes a night. He's fun, he's quick, makes some flashy plays and he consistently gifts the ball to the other team. He also doesn't look any stronger than when they drafted him.

4. TJ and Clark looked good. I have no clue if Miller is any good.

I still see little with Dilly. Backup at best.
Miller is a minimum salary guy at best.

I watched the whole game and my completely unqualified eye for hoops talent and bloated opinions would add the following:

I wanted Clayton Jr but it was easy to see what Connelly liked about Beringer. He moves incredibly well, quick leaper, good hands, natural defensive instincts and great composure for an 18-year old. I think we got ourselves a player.
2. I only saw Zikarsky play for a couple of minutes. He's slower than I thought.
He only played four (4) minutes but you can see some Mark Eaton in him, good and bad. He moved up and down the court like a Lego Godzilla and lacks any fluidity as an athlete. I'd be surprised if he ever becomes a rotational player in the NBA.

Dilly is improving his court vision and distribution but I just don't see it with this kid. (I can feel your evil stare, Tiki.) They tweaked his shooting mechanics and to me, it looks even more disjointed than before. As others have mentioned, unfortunately his ceiling appears to be as a backup PG. How do we get our hands on Cason Wallace from OKC?
4. TJ and Clark looked good. I have no clue if Miller is any good.
TSJ struggled with his shot and didn't get to the rim much but he didn't force his offense and had a whopping nine (9) assists. Clark's game of limited offense and insane defense reminds me of Bruce Bowen and Fears probably hopes he never sees that man again. Both guys should get consistent playing time covering NAW's minutes so they need to step up.

Zikarsky looked exactly how slow I would have expected him to look. If he wasn't "plodding", he would have been a top 10 pick. I don't know if he ever translates to the NBA, but maybe he can end up being our Boban.

Dilly did not look good at all yesterday. Maybe he was pressing to impress.

There are always a large number of playable PGs available. I think we'll grab one.

What’s Ish Smith up to these days?

You mentioned Chris Paul in a previous post and I can't think of a better realistic 1-2 year gap solution for our current Wolves roster. Unfortunately, rumors persist that he will ultimately join the Clippers along with Beal.

Lore and ARod talked at Summer League. Best thing I heard is Lore has developed an app that lets fans in the building buy better seats that are unsold at discounts. Makes way too much sense.

I'm not sure I fully understand what they are trying to do with the empty seats. If the seat is unsold, it's obvious. However, if the seat is sold and the ticket holder hasn't shown up (yet) are they talking about basically reselling that seat to someone in the building? Theoretically, the person who buys the seat pregame has the right to that seat for the entire game, even if they show up with four minutes left in the fourth. Also, how do they know whether the seat is truly unoccupied or the ticket holder is just wandering around the building?

I assume it's just seats that aren't sold by tipoff. That's real easy to track.

I can report that I saw Jaden McDaniels at MSP a couple of days ago. The hot news is that the dude is super tall.
