P.J. Fleck gets a new contract extension—pending approval from Board of Regents—keeping him under contract until 2030.

You also need to do something about the stadium. It is 16 years old. It is great but stagnant. Do something with the 3rd deck. A club or premium seating. More suites. More food options and restrooms. Have a massive scoreboard on the other side and enclose the bowl somewhat. You don't need to add tons of seats just have more amenities. You need to step it up and keep up with pier universities.

This headline is also true:

Men's Football team brings in $40 million of profits to University but only gives Fleck a meager raise.

or

MN Football coaches still only paid about 15% of revenue that Football makes for the university despite raise.

In the end the Star Tribune picked the headline that would be the most disparaging toward the University and against the football program in general. It actually hinders revenue growth for the University by getting people upset at football spending because to many people think if we spend money there we are taking money from academics - vs realizing that we get way more back from the dollars we spend there vs. what we put into it.

Fleck is helping the U of M out a ton and the academics of the U are better with him being on campus.

Long way to answer it is a true headline.

I've been to every gopher game played at the Bank. They have added amenities every year. Still the best college stadium I've been in, hands down.

There are suites and premium club seating. And while attendance has improved, most games still have empty seats. Why add amenities for which there seemingly is no demand?

Also, the food at Gopher football games is pretty good. Especially with the plaza they added a few years ago.

He’s still underpaid but step in the right direction.

Strib doing their normal rage bait BS:

P.J. Fleck gets contract extension while Gophers athletic department anticipates budget deficit

They should really be honest and just rebrand themselves as a tabloid.
Tabloid's deserve more respect than this comment.

This is such non-news. This is the new reality. Coming off a decent season, why take a swipe? Perhaps you missed the memo that when we took our famous stand against the evils of college sports in 1961, the outcome has taken 30 years to start to emerge from, and another 20 years to move out of the category of obsolete programs completely.

In most markets, the headline would be about not paying more, so we can improve the results.

The headline should have stated that Fleck was offered a raise and extension. In the article itself the writer could delve into the pros and cons, i.e. department running a deficit but football provides all the profit, etc.
The headline writer needlessly decided to put themselves on 1 side of the issue. It's things like this that reflect poorly on many media members and why they are struggling. Not sure if they get it or not (and I'm a huge proponent of a free press).

What's not true about the headline?
The implication here is that it's Flecks fault and he's overpaid. When reality couldn't be further from the truth.
The fact is the U is run by fools who can't get their fiscal house in order. It's not just the athletic program but it's everywhere.
