As some reports are starting to come out from early training for NFL teams, I figured it would be good to start the annual thread tracking former Gophers in the NFL (and other professional leagues for that matter). Here are the current players of note.

Go Gophers!!
I had no idea he was still playing football. I always thought he could fill some kind of specialist role because he was big, athletic, and brutally effective at the goal line.

Maybe they have Taysom Hill type ideas for him.

Something tells me Campbell is going to have a hard time getting signed moving forward...

With the tush push legal, I don't know why teams don't fill the position specifically, like they do long snapper. It's an important role. Seth could fill it. I know there are roster limits but no team would turn down an automatic first down on fourth and one.

To save some of you a click--While Striggow is listed in the header there isn't actually a mention of him in the article
I can understand the Vikings wanting a little more experience in the QB room given that their starter has never taken an NFL snap.

Story does say that Brosmer will probably end up on the practice squad so will still be in the league and maybe have a shot to catch on with someone else eventually.

Oof. McCarthy, Howell, Rypien is scary trio to have as your QBs. McCarthy completely unproven and then those as your backups??? Could be a really rough Vikings season if McCarthy struggles or gets injured.

Howell has a lot of talent. I'm not saying it's like having Steve DeYoung on the bench but I thought it was one of the best "quiet" moves the Vikings made in the offseason.

It's going to be a rough season for any team in the NFL if they lose their starting QB.

Definitely looks terrifying on paper. O'Connell has a track record of making historically bad/over their head qbs look mediocre at worst, though. I could see Howell being Brad Johnson levels of serviceable if he had to jump in. Helps to have one of the better wr duos in the league running routes, too.

A cross between Steve Young and Steve DeBerg is definitely a scary thought!

Yeah, NFL teams typically don't have much behind their starter. Scary part for the Vikes of course is that their starter is unproven as well.

The QB position in college has become a lot like it is in the NFL where teams have little to no proven depth behind their starter. The one advantage NFL teams have over college teams is that they can go out and trade for a QB if something happens to the starter. For now college teams don't have an in season option for replacing players but that can't be too far off in the future. :)
