Gopher Softball 2025

Texas Tech buys their best pitcher and top four home run hitters from Stanford, Washington and Louisiana and plays for a national title. There's hope for everyone.

The problem I see with this is I don’t think we have anyone or any group that will step up with that kind of money
With how dominant pitching is in fast pitch, could it be the easiest sport to “buy” a championship? I was shocked to hear over a million for the Tech pitcher.

Yes, it's possible to buy a dominant pitcher for over a million. It's also possible to grind her into the ground pitching endless innings in a row to pursue that championship, which Stanford tried to do with her and now Texas Tech, too.

Nope. Given that Coyle has historically moved quickly in cases like this, I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves things as is.
Ugh. Wish we could get some experienced coaches in this program. Players deserve better.

Has anyone hit the portal yet?

Just Cameron Grayson.
That doesn’t surprise me. She hardly saw any action and she struggled during most of her outings. Did Richardson re-injured herself after her brief appearances?

I don't know if she re-injured herself. But, she may have not recovered enough to pitch effectively. So, they may have shut her down to save her year of eligibility.

Any expectations of Carter Raymond next year?
I thought I read somewhere that she won't be used as a pitcher. Do we know if she plays other positions? Maybe I am getting her mixed up with someone else.

You're right. The original information regarding her commitment indicated she would be playing shortstop.

Big ten schedule is out. Bad timing on my part. Will be traveling for the first 6 home games. If anyone want to split two season tickets with me, let me know Seats are in section 6 (chairbacks). Partial season tickets are SOLD

Reili Gardner is now in the portal. She was injured her 2nd year at MN and primarily pinch ran last year.

I had the winning bid from the auction on the Amber Fiser softball. Very nice piece. Disappointed I lost out on the Sara Groenwegen ball.

Anyone know anything about the transfer catcher from Texas Tech that committed? Looks like she redshirted this past year.

Makayla Madrid was a Freshman Catcher who redshirted last year at Texas Tech. Has she committed?

Cassie Johnson
Position: Catcher/1st/Right Field
Extra Inning Rank: 17th Overall Catcher
Club Team: Iowa Premier-Dickel
Hometown: Des Moines, Iowa
High School: Ankeny High School

Johnson signs with the Red Raiders from Ankeny High School where she is a senior who is coming off an all-state season. A 5-foot-7 utility player, Johnson hit .505 with 14 home runs and 47 RBI as a junior to earn all-state and all-district. She also had a fielding percentage of .981. Her father, Jay Johnson, played baseball at Northern Iowa. Johnson, who also played basketball in high school, plans on majoring in psychology where she hopes to find a career in sports psychology or coaching.

Snider: "A phenomenal catcher and bat! She is one of those rare catchers that can play defense at a high level and hit for power. Cassie was a great pickup for the ball club."
