Gopher Hockey Recruiting

You are seeing it more and more on GPL too. People realize Motzko is not the best way forward for this program. Even Hammy, generally very patient and supportive of the staffs, signed on (which is EXTREMELY rare) and expressed major concern.
You mean the guy who said he agrees with the goalie recruiting strategy and says we shouldn’t make a big deal out of missing on the guys this year but need to watch for a pattern?

We’ve all been in agreement there. The CHL stuff there’s clearly a ton we don’t know behind the scenes right now but we are at an inherent disadvantage with there the kids are from (which is very close to MI and PSU). If we start seeing them pile into Wisconsin, UND (less so for the western Canadians, who have had a long pipeline to und), etc., or if there’s word we’re in on someone and they flip away, I’ll make more of it. We seem pretty late to the party on how we’ll approach foreign nil which doesn’t surprise me with this university and I don’t necessarily put on bob. If we do have a pot of nil and he’s just going to disperse it internally, I do find quite a bit of fault in that decision by Bob and it will only be a matter of time until he’s done In that scenario

Pritchard is in. Woo for stealing Mankato recruits last minute

Pritchard is a nice commit. Does not move the needle much but he’s a big kid, has some of that grit (3rd in PIM for them last year), scored in the ushl and comes in at almost 21. Some good things to like and should provide some balance to the class.

Will be curious to see how it shuffles the incoming group as there are some who could use another year (if not have ties cut)

Doesn't shift anything... He's still scrambling to make a full roster because of poor pipeline management. You want 15+8

He still has to bring in Kvas, Nevers, and Phillips to do that and still needs another forward. He might even have to bring in Reid at this rate.

Ludtke - Clark - Ziemer
Lakovic/Zetterberg - Mooney - Kvas
Hendo - Pahlsson - Lamb
Moore/Falloon - Townsend/JMitt - Pritchard/Nevers

Mittelstadt - Thomas
Phillips - Gruba
Whipple - Rombach
Rud/Begley

How would know anything that is posted on GPL? You got banned from that site because of your Eeyore attitude. But I do have to hand it to you in that of the thousands of posters on GPL only a few have been banned.

Younger Nelson brother to ND. Not surprising at all

Mason Moe signs his NLI, which means he is likely to join the team this fall.

Motzko is going to bring in Moe because he's too lazy to recruit the CHL. "Want to get older" but look at how young his class is lol. He also hurts his replacement by leaving three (average) players in the ENTIRE pipeline for next year and beyond: Katz/Reid/Grimes

Here's your Gopher roster. Not going to be a contender. Thankfully Las Vegas tickets should be somewhat easy to offload.

1. The Frozen Four tix are not on sale yet. You only go if the Gophers are in it. With your attitude, you don't need to worry about buying them in advance.
2. Part of Bob saying getting older means playing more games in the USHL than staying in high school.
3. You would be the perfect Toronto Maple Leaf fan. Booing the team and throwing your jersey on the ice. I bet you don't own a jersey, but you may own a Gopher sweatshirt that you are embarrassed to wear because the Gophers are losers in your eyes.

I buy FF tickets every year to build my priority and get better and better seats every year (and easier to sell when the Gophers don't make it).

Already given up on the program when the season hasn't even started yet (shocking). In the 2022-2023 season when the Gophers were stacked, you didn't even praise them. All you did was bitch and rip on the team. The only team you kept praising was Michigan. It was then myself and alot of people on GPL realized your nothing more than a troll and most likely a Michigan fan. No true Gopher fan would bash the program like you do over and over.

I don't doubt Bonin is a gopher fan, he just looks at things from a mostly negative perspective. I think he does truly care about the team though.

I don't think for one bit he cares about the team!! No true Gopher fan constantly complains about the team like he does. There is a reason why his name on GPL was Eyeore!.

You have a view of what a fan should look like, I'm just saying that I don't necessarily hold that same view.

Fair enough. IMO, a good fan supports the team win or lose whereas Bonin21 doesn't even support the team when they win, all he does is bitch about them. This does not make him a fan at all if his comments are all negative.

Again, this is your opinion and your definition of what a fan should be. I don't like Bonin's attitude, but I also am not going to say he's not a fan.

Wendt is going to Tri City of the WHL. Not that Motzko would want to recruit a young Minnesotan goalie with a lot of potential.

We shall see. Agree would be a good target though he’s only 6’1”. ;)

Good chance he’s drafted next year if he continues on his growth trend

Looks like Motzko is going to pick up DU rejects/scraps in Finn McLaughlin while they load up better players from CHL. Cool

6’2” 200lbs back to back Clark cup champ. Recruited by David Carle. Probably pushes Phillips/Grimes out a year. Sounds good to me.

MSU reject undrafted goalie
DU reject undrafted LHD
Drafted but injured flip from Omaha
Undrafted Flip from Mankato
Accelerated forward to bring in a year early
(plus another accelerated forward already coming in a year earlier than optimal)

No one can look at that and call what he's done this off-season impressive.

You wonder why many well to do parents don't want their kids in Dinkytown? Shooting at a frickin hs graduation at Mariucci. This state is down the crapper. Now it's all over and not just Lake St, Cedar Riverside and North MPLS.

I trust you’ve been to DU where just off campus there where multiple thefts, car jacking and sexual assaults within the last week.

This is horrible and it’s sad. This is 0% something they should be brought up in a recruiting thread or cited like it’s some norm. Fear mongering does nothing to help anyone.

Move to Grand Forks then. You can man crush your favorite team in person while still bashing the Gophers. Win-Win

That's fair, and yet they still send their kids there. So it's either the best coach in the country that outweighs it, private education vs what the U has become, or something else. So both states could be in trouble but I don't think it's fear mongering that MN has major issues and it's only going to get worse. Income migration is absolutely insane the last few years. The school ratings and reading/math scores are on a pathetic trajectory and it's obvious why.

About moving? I did get the heck out of Hennepin County to what I hope is a county that could be okay for the next 20 years as long as public transportation doesn't make its way out here, but with what I'm seeing these outer ring suburbs could be down the crapper too sooner than expected without large changes at the top of the state itself.

If I were coming out of HS today I think it'd be a much tighter decision with Madison that I chose the U again whereas a little less than 20 years ago it was an obvious solid decision cuz there was no way I'd go cheer for a red team despite better schooling

It’s the coach coupled recruiting and scouting being drastically easier in an era off national tournaments and select teams.

Some people don’t want a major metro campus. DU is every bit as woke of a campus as MN. About every major college campus is outside of private, religious affiliated (think is part of why GCU has taken off as a destination school).

Campus safety is a big deal everywhere. There are stories of violence, sa, and theft at them all and many lore go unreported. Violence is actually form in Minneapolis which you hope is a real trend and not just lack of cases being processed (not here to debate this as it just gets political). The U seems to care and try in this regard from my time there recently.

This is a really sad story on what’s supposed to be a very happy day and I think rather overblown to try make this a university or hockey recruiting story like this is commonplace

Players hopes du for Carle and the winningest team title wise in history. Michigan for history and money. Wisconsin for ties and a smaller town (can’t imagine many are going to play Hastings style especially when he may not be the coach in a few years at this pace). UND for ties and history plus being the only show in town. Lots of great schools nationwide that speak to many people for differing reasons

Minnesota for what? Please answer from a non Minnesotan POV.

Also if you meant to say crime is down it's because they encrypted all the channels and can now classify stuff as whatever they want to hide the public from what's happening. Zero reason to encrypt if nothing to hide.

Not saying anything about “encrypting”? No idea what that is. Just looking at the stats that are public record

Minnesota for resources/coaching/development, putting players in nhl, and local for players who grew up here (we are still the state with the most D1 prospects). It’s not like they’re some 3rd tier program now. Don’t think I’ve heard Cooley or Knies have anything but praise for their time here and seen them both at games when they’ve been in town as pros

I don't really understand your sales pitch having any specific examples of resources (which now includes NIL), coaching, or development that is better than any of the other big guns that can offer more money. Mariucci is now 30+ years old and most big teams' facilities have now caught up or surpassed.

Great crowds could be one but we know how MN fans are when it's not going amazingly.
