MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota volleyball team has announced its 2025 non-conference schedule. The Gophers will compete in 11 non-league games from Aug. 25 through Sept. 21 before Big Ten play begins on Sept. 24.

"We're thrilled to finally be able to announce our non-conference schedule," said head coach Keegan Cook. "It's been a tremendous amount of work and I want to give special thanks to assistant coach Pedro Mendes for the work he did to bring it together."

Year three of the Keegan Cook era in Minneapolis officially kicks off with the AVCA First Serve event against Texas A&M on Monday, Aug. 25. The match will be played at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.

"Our non-conference schedule priorities were both numerous and specific for fall 2025," said Cook. "First and foremost we want a schedule that allows us to develop our team and prepare them for Big Ten play. 11 matches over five weeks gives us that opportunity. We will be a better team after these five weeks of competition."

Last year's non-conference schedule seemed to tough for the coaching staff and team that were learning about each other and a new system. I felt that the team lost confidence in the first half of the season. This year's schedule seems too soft for a team that should have a better understanding of the system and each other. They need a happy medium schedule.

I think with a new setter and incoming freshman this schedule will allow them to develop without the pressure of facing multiple top 10 teams early on. That said I would like to see one match against a more established tournament team.

The Non-Con schedule does favor a positive result for this upcoming Gopher season. Breaking it down, this team doesn't have all that much STARTING experience....

1 - MOST EXPERIENCE- Hanson, Acevedo (still room for improvement), Wucherer (but she is questionable to play this season and if she does, for how long), Myers (transfer in from Purdue), Minatee, and our backourt of Z and T (both still with lots of room for improvement, especially T).

2 - SOME - Crowl and Lee

3 - NO DIV 1 STARTING EXPERIENCE - O Swenson, S Swenson, Gilk, Garr, Taylor, Ng, and Kinney (who doesn't arrive on campus til this summer)

After watching the PVF League there were a lot of outstanding players that have graduated and are no longer in the BIG. Let me add the loss is just as great for many other conferences.

Early predictions have us finishing 4-6 in the BIG. Outside of Penn State, Wisconsin, and UCLA who heavily used the portal and you add Nebraska to that, are chances to finish 4-6 are realistic. However, I feel there are so many other BIG programs in the same boat we are in.

This conference use to see 6-8 teams make post season. Hate to say it, but those days could be over sooner than later. Let's hope for the later.
