Jefferson is Gone

With the way players are moving around it is getting a point where that question can be asked about every player on every team every year....:)
Jefferson hasn't "moved around." He's a high school recruit. You might remember him...when he committed to Minnesota you loved him.

Who are you quoting?, link?
Wow. Trouble following simple chains of thought?

Howie wondered whether Ben would have held onto Jefferson.

But the better question is "why couldn't Medved hold onto him?"

Hopefully someone steps up and asks that question.

Everytime I see this thread I think of Bloomington Jefferson high school.
A kid who formerly was coming to the Gophers has now moved on. I say it's time to let the kid move on. I frankly couldn't care less about where he goes, unless or until he plays against the Gophers in the future.

Clearly Gonzaga is slipping into obscurity and trending toward Minnesota. 😏
Funny stuff.

If Jefferson spurned Rutgers for Gonzaga...it seems to me it would have been nice to keep him with 4 or 5 open spots... are we giving a scholarship to Reader for instance? By new rule if he stays we have to give him a scholarship. I'd prefer Jefferson.

I don't care what Ryan James or anyone else says.....this wasn't a "mutual" split....if NIko didn't try to keep this kid, he's nuts.

We don't know what kind of NIL deal he had been promised under the previous coach. No question Jefferson would have been worthy of a scholarship. The question was whether or not Niko wanted to allot the money necessary to keep him, particularly very early on in the process. It's not unbelievable to me this could have been a mutual decision.

I think it was Ryan James (and maybe others) who tweeted that the parting of ways with Jefferson was “mutual”……as if the Gophers didn’t want him I really hope that’s not accurate.
With about 12-13 spots to fill and big guys tough to find, there is no way he wouldn't have wanted Jefferson. My guess is that Jefferson's agent put out some feelers and then he had a discussion with Niko on price. I'd guess that the price wasn't in the early budget plan so that Niko and Parker might well have agreed that it was best for Parker to move on. In today's world, a mutual decision is often not about talent assessment so much as a budget decision.

You understand that Conzaga has the 3rd. largest recruiting budget in the basketball world. The fact that they could offer more than the Gophers should not surprise anyone.

I read somewhere that Niko really wanted him (don't remember where). That can be consistent with the idea that Jefferson was asking for more money than we could allot him (especially with Gonzaga sniffing around) and so Niko decided to pass on him.

So basically he was gone no matter who the coach was.

These kids have agents now that are pushing them towards the best financial deal they can get. As his value in the market place improved I'm sure he was advised to explore different oppertunities. Ben may have been in a better position to retain him because he was in on him early before anyone else but in todays world that might not have mattered.

And Doogie said Hoiberg was looking to come here...do you believe that too?

Jefferson isn't going to Gonzaga because we spurned him or didn't try.

Gonzaga has a history of developing big men like him so the move makes sense. Also money

Only 3 of Gonzaga's last 8 HS recruits have been top 100 players. At least since Holmgren went there, they haven't really been in on top recruits as much as they used to. Maybe concentrating more on the portal?

LOL.
Now the narrative is that Ben Johnson had the NIL to get Jefferson but not Niko??
