Favorite Friday = Who is YOUR favorite gophers men’s hockey player?

There are more important things to discuss at the moment...

So, figure we could use some positivity here with the recent results. I'm going to give a shoutout to some players on the 2011-2012 team.

Ended the drought, having not made the NCAA tournament since 2008, reclaimed the MacNaughton Cup for the first time since 2007 winning the WCHA. Figured things were looking good when they swept defending champs UMD early in the season.

Kent Patterson in his senior season had 7 shutouts, most in a season. Kyle Rau was a freshman phenom. Great contributors in Erik Haula, Nick Bjugstad, Nate Schmidt, Nate Condon. Senior leaders with Taylor Manson and Jake Hansen.

From my early days watching this team Bonin, Crowley, and Reggie Berg were favorites. Some others are Westrum, Taffe, Potulny #2, Irmen, Rau, Bjugstad, Haula, and Schmidt. Cooley and Knies probably my favorite though.

Steve Christoff.

Butsy Erickson

(Tim Harrer and Mike Crowley.)

Your first 3, plus Nick Checco were my players when I was a kid.

Vanek was the next one after that era.

Neal Broten
Neal Broten for me too. I think he’s still the only player ever to win the Hobey Baker Award, The NCAA Championship, the Olympic Gold Medal and the Stanley Cup, plus the WHCA championship. The late 70’s and early 80’s was a great period for Minnesota hockey and Broten was a big part of it.
