Branham: There are at least 8 teams that will have a $10,000,000+ roster in college basketball next season.

By money. Lots and lots of money. Only way it implodes is if the money stops rolling in
I’m not a zero sum guy, but if that kind of money is going into college sports salaries, there have to be a lot of other organizations that rely on voluntary contributions that are going to lose out on what they may have gotten before.

It's a sad state of affairs.

The question is: where was that 10M going before? Is that new money? Were players getting a chuck of it before under the table? Was universities pocketing it?

My guess is it'll be at least 15 teams. Several teams we heard were paying $5 million or more in NIL in the Big 10 alone. Add revenue sharing at another $5 million and it is business as usual at $10 million. Pretty much every SEC team, some big Ten teams, ...Louisville, St Johns, UConn, Texas Tech, BYU, Duke etc ....the list goes on.

I was wondering the samething. Players earn ten million, and in the past admistration would look at us with a straight face and say tuition should be enough for them.

My grandpa had nine kids in a farm family and he never liked any of them leaving home.

I’d guess:

Arkansas
BYU
Duke
Indiana
Kentucky
Louisville
Michigan
Texas Tech
Does Texas Tech have a big whale donor? Patrick Mahomes eventually maybe but I was surprised to see them listed here. Not saying you're wrong, you certainly know better than me.

Unlike in the pros, there are some schools that have some wealthy alums/fans who are willing to give away their own money to support this stuff. That's probably the schools in the list.

TV ratings are paying for the rev share stuff

Cody Campbell is the driver of their NIL. The link below is about the 3rd or 4th time he’s sold that company’s assets.

This was a coach survey from August. Texas Tech didn't surprise me since I heard about that softball pitcher but Kansas State was surprising.

Which three programs do you believe have the best NIL situations?

Until there is a clearing house, or some mechanism to disclose the actual contracts and they can be viewed, I’m skeptical about any numbers thrown out there.
I heard the Gophers have 40 million in crypto currency and their mines in Soudan (Minnesota) are currently creating $600,000 per day under Lake Vermillion.

How can this possibly be sustained?
I think you will see that question answered 4-5 yrs from now. Right now, we are basically on the front end of this new NIL world with some people thinking if they throw enough money at their team they can push them to the top. However, we've seen quite a few examples on the pro sports side where the biggest payrolls don't necessarily bring home the title.

So, if 4-5 yrs after this first NIL push has started and those bankrolling their teams don't win a title or don't even sniff the Championship, how long before some of the money starts to dwindle or even stop for some programs. However, for those that can make it work they will be flush with cash. Hey, sticking large sums of money into the hands of 18-22 yr olds, some who have seen very little money growing up, what can possibly go wrong?

I heard something about this too! Drill, baby, drill! :)
