All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

It’s common to retain the assistants. Completely meaningless to the coaching search. In fact I believe Pitino’s assistants still under contract were retained until Ben was hired.
Livingston from Pitino’s staff. who else?? Do you believe or know?

I realize I cite Coyle’s salary fairly frequently, but why the hell do you need to pay someone $1.4M annually to make the easiest, most predictable and uninspired hire he could make? I could offer the Gophers job to a career mid-major coach with local ties and he would accept it. There’s zero inspiration with this guy. He’s pure programmed technocrat.

Joerger can coach....tremendous success in the CBA and he got the shaft in 2 of his NBA jobs. To me, he's interesting and has a real resume. Question is, can he recruit? Can he raise NIL money?
If he wasn't from MN would anyone here be interested in Joerger? We have to get over the MN connection fantasy

OK. Let's recap. There have been 27 coaches mentioned in this or other threads as a possible new Head Coach at Minnesota. Jackson, Smith, Tauer, Medved, Wade, Bennett, Musselman, Dutcher, Calhoun, Hodge, Huss, McCollum, Rice, Saunders, Siddle, Valentine, Young, Moser, DeVries, Jacobson, Crean, Joerger, Grant, Sweeney, Johnson, Crutchfield, and Bickerstaff...
I'll nominate Sean Miller to the list

Now comes where the money is made. He has to find a way to support his hire. Do that at a winning level and he will have earned it- otherwise no. Make the hire and then make it work. He failed to do that with Ben. Needs to do it now.

Niko is mild mannered, but... Maybe being good at coaching basketball is more important than being the next Harold Hill. People might overthink this. You don't have to look hard to find mild mannered coaches who build programs and excite fan bases by presenting a sound product and engendering trust in their ability.
If we hire him, I want him to be our Bo Ryan or Greg Gard. Winning trumps flashy.

You live in St Paul and don't know who Dave Shama is??

I mean, think poorly of him, sure. Ignore, even.

But never heard of him?
If it weren't for GopherHole, I would have literally never heard of him. This is the only place I ever see him appear. And I've lived in Minnesota and followed sports closely all my life.

Doesn’t he also have two incoming freshman from MN committed? Would they follow him if true?

He has a kid from Washburn on the team - Jorgenson (6-9) and he plays, not sure about recruits- I only see a guard from Texas on the recruiting list.

I appreciate the effort / time it took to scour all those names from here
