Current rumor:

Beth Goetz, the Athletic Director at Iowa, has sent an email to high-level university staff that a change in leadership will occur in men's basketball - likely announced with a press release late this afternoon.

I wonder if my FiL, a Hawkeye booster and Ben Johnson admirer, is going to push the hire of CBJ in Iowa City?

Maybe he only admired beating CBJ-coached teams?

Well I'm sure everyone else saw it, but it's now official. Not a stretch to say either McCollum or DeVries next up for Iowa?

Charles Hallman weighing in on firing a guy who averaged 20 wins per season over 15 seasons? The Gophers would erect a statue for that.....

Iowa hasn't had a black head coach since George Raveling (1983-86). 4 white coaches have been hired in the last 39 years. I'm sure Mr.Hallman is headed to Iowa City. After all... "you can't fire the coach, until you hire the coach"

My wife and I were talking at lunch. Fran is 65, and now might be a good time for him to retire from coaching, but of course it's up to him. She and I agreed he would be good in broadcasting. He's articulate and, I'm sure, insightful.

Given Fran's temper history, I'm surprised that he got fired before he had a seizure on the sideline.

I'd be shocked if it wasn't Devries or McCollum here.

It might work out for them, and Fran is interesting, but they had a lot of really good players and seasons worth Fran. I wouldn't be upset if they went backwards as a program for the next 40 years or so 😁

As an Irishman he probably has a wicked gallows humor that would play well in some circles.

As a fellow Irishman, I have been bombarding twitter with passive aggressive non-accusations that point out that he is Irish, he had a winning Big 10 record, and he was fired on a Friday in lent and therefore his fish fry was ruined. I am not saying the firing was anti-Irish and/or anti-Catholic, I just wanted to passive aggressively point those things out.

Well played. 🍀
