Winfield Jr. becomes highest paid DB in NFL History!

Well deserved. I watch the Bucs a lot as my local market team and he was their best player in 2024 by a good margin. Was stunning he didn’t make Pro Bowl but All Pro and the Almighty Dollar know what’s up!

The highest paid DB on Earth is a Gopher! DB U!

I will never forgive spielman for passing on him. How much more obvious of a pick could there have been? Local all American that played high school with his own son at a position of need?!?!?!
I think the Vikings took Jeff Gladney a few spots ahead of AW.

It doesn’t seem that long ago during his post-verbal we were watching his high school HUDL highlights and saying holy schit, he’s getting passed over because of his height?
They were saying on Barreiro today that he was something like the 1300th ranked recruit in his class. Great find by our recruiters!

Has anyone contacted him about making an NIL donation? 😁🤞🤟🤑please and thank you. Cherry on top.

He was electric and an obvious dude on the hudl…and dismissed because of a few inches of height. Even at the draft the pundits said he wouldn’t be able to make plays on taller receivers… didn’t have great make up speed and I’m like….what are you guys looking at.

This is a guy who (except for his genes) has had most things stacked against him to get to this point. His size, not coming out of a football factory school, his college injuries, being wrongly wrapped up in the sex scandal and almost leaving the U. So glad we got to see him as a Gopher, and equally happy for his success.

Awesome news and well deserved! Unfortunate as Gopher fans that we essentially lost out on 2 years of college ball due to the injuries.....but has been a lot of fun watching him dominate in the NFL.

Hopefully he can keep kicking butt and eventually find his way into the HOF.

This was a great play. The route he took to make this pick is awesome - not the shortest path but the quickest path to make the pic.
Here's to you Antoine :drink:

I remember watching that game and when that ball went up in the air, it looked like it was all over and we were going to lose. The AW comes from out of the picture to intercept that ball. Just incredible.

The int the year prior against Fresno was just as amazing. He closed like five yards of space very quickly.

Rick Spielman is a genius trade-down dealmaker, LOL! But he couldn't see what's under his shadow.

Not too shabby

ESPN:

Winfield, who was named a team captain this past season for the first time in his career, turned in one of the finest performances of any defensive player in the league in 2023 -- tying for a league-leading six forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries, joining Haason Reddick as the only players to accomplish this feat since at least 2000.

He registered 122 tackles -- fourth most among all league defensive backs and second most on the team -- with six tackles for loss, 12 passes defended, 6 sacks, 8 quarterback hits and 3 interceptions.

His 1,100 snaps in 2023 were more than any other defensive player on the team. For Winfield's efforts, he was named first-team All-Pro.

A second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, he is the son of former Pro Bowl, All-Pro and Jim Thorpe award-winning cornerback Antoine Winfield Sr. and became an immediate day-one starter at safety, before switching to nickelback in 2022 and back to safety in 2023. He registered a forced fumble of Drew Brees in the Bucs' divisional playoff win over the New Orleans Saints in 2020 and intercepted Kansas City Chiefsquarterback Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LV.

Maybe he'll play for the Vikings someday.
