Christie watch

When the dust settled in the Sid vs Darkstsrr battle the darkstarr patriots were the victors. Doogie was a Siddite and as we know the Siddites we’re driven out of the TC media landscape.

I’m an anti-Siddite.

One The Athletic article had Christie going late in the first. Another had him ranked in the mid-2nd range. Maybe opinions diverge.

Gophers are not among the big spenders of college basketball.

With Christie likely leaning gone, we've got some money to blow. Seems that way with all of the guys Ben and staff are hitting lately.

It's not over.

It feels to me like they are still holding out hope for Christie. The wings they are after are not high end wings in my view-unless I have missed one. The Christie slot is rumored to be 400k- you can still get a really good player for that (insane to have to think that way).

I’m surprised people think he’s leaning towards coming back. I’d put it at 90% he stays in the draft and is playing some sort of professional basketball next year.

Especially with the team imploding this offseason, whats the point for him coming back into this situation?

Hard to say what Christie will do but it would seem nuts for him to transfer at this late hour. It would be a huge dirt bag move to take off this late leaving your coach with thin pickings to replace. I just really doubt that is the type of person he is.

I'd have to vote draft or Gophers. I'm sure he could sign after the 2nd round like 6th Man of the Year Naz Reid did.

There really is very little interest him at the NBA level! One out of all the mock drafts had him taken late in the 2nd round. He is not currently anywhere near NBA ready. I think all this worry is funny! You all way overvalue his current talent level. Not strong enough and a mediocre to poor defender.

Possible --> It's possible the budget is held for Christie and the point guard spot needs to be a diamond in the rough cheaper find.

How often does a free agent make a nba team? The answer is very seldom. You are all clueless u are creating a scenario that has little likelihood to exist! It is comical. You are all commenting just to see yourself write even though what you written haa no factual bais and / or little likelihiid to play out the way yiu envisage! If you are going to create a possible scenario get up off your ass and find out what percentage of NBA rosters are occupied by undrafted free agents!

Amir Coffey? Undrafted as I recall or late second round but guaranteed a two way contract and chose to do that instead of return. He’s made a good living playing basketball.

It’s part of our collective post traumatic stress as Gopher’s fans. It’s not unprecedented that guys stay in who don’t have much of a chance to be drafted.

Yeah that is because they did notvlisten to the evaluation of their game and draftability the NBaA provided, and that was also before NIL. These guys are making money now if they are any good.

Interesting point. From a financial perspective is NIL or two way contract more profitable today especially if the guy enjoys school. Realistically if he is guaranteed a two way contract he is gone.

Timberwolves have at least one: Naz Reid.

I see at least 50 undrafted NBA players currently… unless I am misreading

I wasn't too worried about him portaling...until I saw this thread!

It's not uncommon at all.

I want Christie to come back but I believe the best chance a player has of getting great at something is for it to be your sole focus. I don't think going undrafted and playing in the G-League is a bad route.

I hope he comes back but there are a ton more options nowadays.

You don't think Payne and Christie improved?
Payne did not improve from yr 1 to 2... Christie had a nice stretch then regressed as well at the end... If Christie comes back we will see if he improves

You are clueless on Payne.
Fox, Ihnen and JOJ were sharing PT with him he until he improved and then only Fox substituted for him for Big Ten games.

Doogie says the Gophers don't expect Christie back and expect him to remain in the draft. But also to watch the portal in regards to him.
Doogie hedged to 2 of the 3 possible outcomes as possibilities.

I will say this, I can definitively say Christie will play basketball next year, unless he doesn't.
